How's it going guys, for those of you doing your own transmission service...here's a tip to watch for.
I've noticed lately that filters aren't fitting properly when doing a trans service. I've swapped/serviced 6 transmissions in the last month, first one I got the filter from Advance Auto (Proking kit). Pan didn't want to sit in place, it was pushed down by the filter. Odd. I inspected to find the metal tab on the filter was touching the bolt on the accumulator. Weird, I trimmed it with cutters and no worries. Must have been crappy China filter, grumble grumble. Picked up a bunch of filters from the local trans supply house ($3/each why not?). So far I've noticed the same issue with nearly every single one that I've installed.
I'm thinking there was a change to something in the production process.
If you see the edge of the metal hitting... trim it.
