I am pulling the motor out of my gtp. I got to the point where I'm about to remove the engine. I needed to roll the car back for more engine hoist room. I turned the key to unlock the steering wheel and possibly put the shift lever into neutral. No luck. It won't move from park. I tried hooking the battery up and turning the key forward to possibly release the shift lever from neutral. No luck.
I tried to manually move the shift lever on the transmission it self. No luck there either. Any ideas?

yeah you need to hook up all the grounds and the starter back up to move it. also you should leave it in neutral when your start removing the engine. there is a way to dis en-gauge the lock out but it will break it. so look on youtube

With no power on you should be able to disconnect the shift linkage and move it whatever position u need it to be in.

I already jacked up the front of the car and pushed it back on the jack wheels before reading these responses. Motor is out. I hope to manually shift it to neutral when i move it again. Thanks.

i'm confused... i've been able to move my shifter from part with all the wires on an engine disconnected..

I've just used the little button next to the shifter... worked every time

that button is the bypass button. it should pop up when you try and do something dumb like have the gear sector unpluged or no foot on break.
