New transmission break in

SO I did a full rebuild on my 4t65e-HD. New steels, clutches, bushings, solenoids, VB/CP upgrades, the works (I pretty much cloned TEP street/strip). Now what is there for a break in procedure? Should I change the fluid and filter after 500 miles? Should I lay off of it or give it the juice every once and awhile to seat everything?

I would let it row through the gears as much as possible...for SURE keep an eye on trans temp.

And yeah, I would do a pan drop in a few hundred miles.

I had Dave build a trans for my blue car, I did a pan drop and filter change around 1k~ miles. Then I beat the ever livinig piss out of it. Worked fantastic

Yep very. Most driving of 0-55-0 driving so going through the gears are no problem. I was hoping slightly a pan drop was in my near future. I want to use my pan with the plug (dorman pn#265814)

I just put mine back in the car with all TEP parts and a cooler and have been beating up on it.

Transmissions either work or dont work.

i did the same rebuilt it and drove the piss out of it then after like 1k did a pan drop to see if everything looked ok

When Dave sends a trans.. the instructions are basically to fill X, check it.. top.. drive a little .. check top and that's all. There's really no break in there's no need to change a filter in short mileage. The only things that should be on the filter or in the pan are the slightest bit of clutch material.

I put my new trans in, drove a year ~30K and did a pan drop service. I plan the same in about another 8 months. =0) motor on and smile.

I had to replace some parts a normal rebuild doesn't need like the pan, 2nd clutch spring, and pump.
With Everything and a Torque converter ($110) it came out to $830.
But as I have said I touched everything and pretty much cloned TEP street strip trans without the 7/8 chain and 330M Shaft.

Time spent on rebuild probably close to 30hrs (a lot of carnage to clean up)
