That's an output shaft.![]()

lol, okay but on a serious note, what about the condition of the tranny? any potential problems?
here are cell phone pics of what i found
edit-again, the rest of the pan was clear of no other shavings or metal pieces
I'd just replace the filter and what fluid came out on a pan drop, run it for 500 miles, do it again and see how it looks. Should be cleared up.
wouldnt it be an idea also to also do a tranny flush as well to ensure everything gets removed b4 getting it ready for the road? i dont want to regret not doing something i should have done from the start.
I never recommend a flush. But Trannyman says if they're done right they can be of use. To me there's just too many ways for someone to do them wrong.
yea, thats basically what i heard. the tranny only has 4k-5k miles on it though? o btw, i actually had the tranny on its side when i drained it. i'd say about a quart of fluid poured out. i recall the owner drained as much as he could before shipping it, saving on weight(i e-mailed him again to confirm) for what its worth.
Keep in mind that a Flush is not really a Flush it is just a fluid exchange and nothing more, it is not flushing anything out of your trans except replacing old fluid with new through the cooler lines. That magnet doesnt look too pretty for being a fairly fresh trans so you may want to pull the diff cover and make sure the diff looks ok. Hopefully since your output shaft was a clean break it didnt cause any damage, I went through a trans not too long ago for someone that broke an aftermarket output shat and it was in multiple pieces and caused a lot of internal damage and its a good thing we went through the trans because it wouldnt have worked because the ratching sprags were seized up from the shock when it happened, 4th shaft was damaged, and a few other problems were found where the output shaft rides.
where exactly is the diff cover(passenger side area?) and wouldnt i need a new gasket as well as well a torque wrench to retighten the bolts down?

trannyman i e-mailed u through the TEP e-mail
For what its worth, when I shredded the sun gear in my differential I found TONS of metal in my pan and a lot in my filter. But after tearing the transmission down, I found not one piece of metal inside the transmission.
Now, thats significant, at least to me because I drove the car with the differential issue from July of 2007 to February of 2008 before I finally ground down the sun gear to the point it could not grab.
Now, does that mean it will be the case with yours? Obviously I cannot say. But I was impressed with the fact the filter trapped all that material and not just on the surface of the filter but also IN BETWEEN it also.
Trannyman is expert here on such things and Im just making observations, but I drove that thing for 8 months before it gave out on me which was ample time to circulate those metal bits if they were going to go through. Either I was extremely blessed or that filter did way more than I would have expected it to do.
LOL. I was quite proud of the destruction.
