Ive done a search and got some info about a bad PCS, but im not sure if my problem could be something more. Ive read the posts about the hard shifting, which mine does also. and how people say it normally resets after turning the car off. My issue is when i begin moving from a dead stop, my car feels like a manual Trans. Like I'll hit the gas, and itll move but the RPMs rise before it'll jump in gear. no matter how soft or hard i press the gas, it does this. The harder i press it, the more aggressively it jerks into gear. I've never had Trans problems with a car before, so im lost as to symptoms of failed trannys. Do you think its possibly the PCS, or is it just time for a new Trans?
Btw, its a 98 gtp. Not sure of the mileage, as my odometer didn't work when i bought it. It was stuck at 143k a yr ago.

took my car to aamco to get it scanned this morning, nothing came up. The tech test drove it twice and said he didnt notice a shifting issue. When i was leaving, it did it again. But isnt as noticeable as before. Should i just change the PCS anyways, or might it be a shift solenoid?

I think I'll just change it. after reading more about shift solenoids, im sure its not that. I heard of some pressure ball or something like that, is it sonething that I'll def see and not miss when i swap the part?

Your problem sounds similar to mind. Where you take off from a dead stop and it still moves, but it will slam in gear of sorts, light or heavy on the pedal don't matter.

I've had 3 possible causes: a. low trans fluid, they are sensitive to not enough fluid, b. input piston seal leaking, c. forward band going out.

Aww man, so i probably will have to take it to a shop. I was hoping it was smething i could do on a day off. the fluid is full, i checked it alot because of a leak i had after changing the driver CV axle. I just dont have the money for this

Well that makes me feel better. I noticed its only 1st gear that slow shifts. It jerks into 2nd, but 3 and 4 are smooth. I read somewhere that a shift kit could fix this. Im gonna attempt the PCs, if not I'll probably take a chance on a junkyard tranny. It'll b cheaper than a rebuild.

    Why not Bill?

And wpb, I'm confused. You said you had problems taking off, now you say it's in the shift? Which is it?

If it's in the shift..then likely it's pcs.

Brando..cause it's etiher broken, working or cooked beyond black. None of those cause bang starts if the trans is already in gear. Dunno how else to say it.. the universe doesn't work the way you think it does.

I was just asking because I was curious? I don't know how it works so I appreciate your input on the matter, genuinely
Someone told me this might be the cause, what do I know about a transmission? So I tossed it on the list.

Ok..thought you knew a little more from all your issues with them. Allow me to explain a little better.

When you toss the shifter into D, the manual valve in the valve body is moved via that linkage and it causes fluid to flow into various channels etc. One of said channels fills the accumulator (which accumulates fluid for a purpose) which pushes on the forward band. This band is chillin there around a drum (semi loosely). When the accumulator pushes on the band, the band gets closed up a little and that makes it grab the drum. Presto you are in drive. There is an accumulator for 2-1 gears as well as reverse.

Ah, that helps. Very informative. But where does the input piston apply in that line of actions?

And to wpbboy, I apologize for taking the thread a different direction. Maybe it will help you, too?

No prob...not one to get worked up over nothing. But the issue is...from a stop, when i press the gas it feels as if im easing off the clutch in a manual transmission. Or like im towing something heavy, but then it jerks (not always hard) into 2nd gear. At 1st i thought it had something to do with my tune, but i put my Zzp pcm back in and its still doing the same.

lolz zzp pcm. put the stock one back in and THEN rule it out. but yeah it sounds to me maybe it's slightly different from what i have going on, since it occurs on upshift.

I dont have a stock one.anymore. I had the stock one tuned as well, then took the Zzp one out. But i put th zzp one back in just to see if the problem persisted. The tuned one is back in now. Hopefully I'll have it figured out by next weekend. What is yours doing?
