Hey, I just picked up a 98 SE gp, I'm planning on doing some basic things to it to make it run better and of course look better, but I was talking to my friend and he asked if I would ever mod it completely. I've been researching everything all night and it seems feasible because it's not my daily driver. Right now I have a 2000 GTP with a blown engine that I picked up for the interior from a roll over. I know that if I start any heavy mods on this car I'll need to replace the tranny so my question is will I be able to work a 4T65-E HD transmission into a n/a 3800? From all my research it seems I should be able to, I know it's recommended I get one of the exact transmissions rebuilt but I'm not sure if there is going to be that one little thing to stop it since it'll be a stock one from a GTP and not rebuilt, the GTP only has like 20k km on it so it's in good condition (other then the roof being cut apart to get the guy out). I'd like to save myself the 1500-2000 that I've seen for prices of these transmissions. Another quick question is has anyone done a L36 N/A to the 9's? I'm only planning on having a little fun with it, but mostly have it as a showier piece, because as I said it's not my daily driver.

I've gone through a few different stickied threads and I have a basic idea of what to do. I do all my own mechanical work, I've just never taken on something this extensive so I intend to be prepared for everything, I also know many mechanics, my father being one so I'm not scared if it's a labour intensive build and I'll do it all.

So far beyond basic maintenance I have a list of things to get, mostly ZZP and I'll of course be doing a lot more planning.

    Thanks.

The only major differences between a 4T65E and HD are the HD differential and gearing (based on model).
If you switch to the HD trans, you will need to get a tune to accept the 2.93s that your gtp has rather than the 3.29s that the SE has.

Also if I remember right, you need to switch to HD CV shafts if you install the HD trans.

N/A in the 9s... If you mean in the 1/8th mile yes. If you mean in the 1/4 mile, not by a long shot! You have to have deep pockets to get into the 12s. The fastest M90 grand prix ran a 10.82 in the 1/4. ZZP holds the Turbo record at 8.something. If you're planning on modding and already need a trans anyway, read up on Tim King or Triple Edge Performance.

Sorry, by "to the 9's" is an expression used here, done to the nuts, all the way, etc.

Thanks for the little extra info though.
