Lately when driving 60mph or so the RPM's will suddenly spike and the car will jerk. It usually does this once or twice then stops for a couple minutes. About a year ago I had the tranny rebuilt with new 4th gear hub, solenoid, shift kit etc. I replaced the plugs, wires, and fuel filter as a place to start. Car has 113,000 miles. Any idea's on where to start would be appreciated.

Let me see if I understand this. As you are cruising along w/o any apparent issues the rpm jumps say 1k rpm or so and then slams back into gear. It'll do it here and there, but not just repeatedly, because..that would seem like a constant slip.

Do I have that right? (if so..you and I have the same problem, it's not good to be like me)
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Your exactly right. Ill be driving at highway speeds, even sometimes with the cruise on, and it will suddenly jerk and the RPM's spike. This jerk is pretty sudden and goes away quickly.

It's tough to diagnose because it doesn't happen everytime I drive it.

Does it free-wheel or the torque converter just goes in and out of lockup? By spike do you mean the rpm's jump to the rev limiter? If that's the case, you're in trouble

The RPM's only go up 500-1000. It's just the fact that it happens so suddenly. It doesn't seem like it's free wheeling but its really hard to tell.

Been happening to me since Dec. Some weeks it never happens, some it's common.

I talked to Dave at TEP and a local trans shop owner/buddy and they both say it's not common. About the best idea I can come up with is the input piston seal or something like that. Soon I'll be swapping out my trans and disecting to find the cause.

Til then...you know as much as me.

Bad news, the problem has gotten much worse recently. It feels like its slipping almost anytime I'm accelerating. Took it in to a shop and the guy thought it was a lock-up issue. Any ideas where to begin?

Go to the place that rebuilt it, you should have a warranty...
