Did a rebuild on my 4t65e with the shift kit, seals, clutches and more. Put it back in. Fired up the car and when you shift it doesn't do anything at all. Just wondering if there is something stupid I need to check before I yank it back out of the car.

i would get someone to look at it while u shift in and out of gears... see if its moving at all. would suck to snatch it out for linkage being messed up.

a GM obd2 techtool or scantool or whatever they call it can read what is going on when you shift the trans to atleast see if the car is recognizing the different gear selections. There is a specific transmission selection that can scan the trans and atleast help narrow it down. It could just be a gear selection linkage or shift solenoid which are minor repairs in comparison to rebuilds. Try PMing Trannyman...hes a great resource here, knows his stuff

i have an obd2 scanner and it is showing no codes. if i shift it into park it locks in. when i shift to neutral i can push the car. so it looks like i am just getting nothing to move the car at all. do i need to let the car run before the tranny throws codes?

Does your scanner show live data, as in what gear the computer is commanding?

Locking into park is a completely mechanical mechanism, where the rest are electrical and hydraulic. If the computer is commanding the right gear, I would check to see if you're getting any fluid running through the cooler. Could be something blocking the fluid flow, the pickup (filter) not connected properly, or a bad pump. Hell, it could just be low fluid.

My scanner doesn't do live data but I can get one that does. This tranny has over 11 1/2 quarts in it so it should be getting enough fluid to work. It would be nice to know if there is a fluid circulation issue before I pull this thing out.
