I was on cruise at 118km/h and out of no where the revs jumped up. I was in third and it wouldn't go back into 4th. The shifts seemed very long and sluggish.

After I stopped and made a second trip everything seemed perfectly fine and then out of no where I got a cel which is the p0717.

I read the posts on the forum here and also read all tsb's from gm. I checked the wiring from the 20 pin trans connector to the PCM and all had continuity even while moving the harness all around. I then cleared all codes and drove it 2 times as it is a 2 trip code and it came back but no loss of gears.

Anyone have ideas or anything ?

As Bill had mentioned, you can check the Ohms on the input sensor which according to the blue ATSG manual should be 893-1127 Ohms at 68F or 1132-1428 Ohms at 190F. The biggest thing is to make sure the winding for the sensor is not open. If you have a shorted turn(s), an ohmeter would never let you know and the resistance would check fine. A better check other than an ohmeter would be to have a scanner such as a Tech II or equivalent and actually look at the RPM's. The signal being generated by the input sensor is read by the PCM and then converted to RPM's. Or if you have a scope, you could use that method. And you may already know this when you checked for continuity, the pinouts for the input speed sensor are S and V in the 20 pin connector. The wire colors are Red/Blk and Dark Blue/White respectively. And as Bill had mentioned about your 4th gear, when P0717 sets, the PCM disables 4th gear if in hot mode and the PCM disables TCC. Since everything started working normally on the second start, I would check for a loose connection either at the 20 pin connector or at the PCM. If no thrills at that point and everything checks okay, take some contact cleaner such as CRC and spray the connector pins at each end and put a little dielectric grease in the connectors. Hope this helps!
