What is the normal operating temp for a trans? Yesterday the gauge said 204. To me this seems high. Taking off from a stop it seemed like it was slipping. After it cooled down it seemed fine. Also feels like it slips when passing on the hwy. Car has almost 90,000 miles. I'm planning to change fluid and filter to see if that helps. any tips or advise?
    Thanks

Checked the fluid, it's not low and don't smell burnt but does look a little draker than I think it should. I'm really thinking a filter change and flush would help. I changed the coolant temp switch cuz it seemed like the fans werent turning on. took it for a drive and the temp seemed ok while driving. So did the trans temp. It did get to a final temp of 201*. I drove for about half hour. Both city and hwy driving.

Well the trans cooler is in the radiator, so trans temp should be close to thermostat temp. Which yours sounds to be.

204 is within operating temps. Keep in mind that to me....it's high. What thermostat is in the car?

A 195F, perfectly understandable the trans is 10F above the thermostat.
A 180F, well..that's a 24F delta. why is the trans staying hot? Lots of city driving?
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
