Just took the car to a shop today and they told me there was no trans codes or any electronic failures. They told me the trans needed a rebuild.

    Could be.

MAF and TPS can cause similar issues. But it does sound like you probably need a rebuild or different tranmission.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    Hi Victor,

If you have access to an actual scan tool or a shop that has one and can watch live transmission data that is your first step to see what is going on. It honestly sounds like it is rebuild time and definately pressure related problems, but it is always good to check before digging in too far and then still having the same problems. On a scan tool you need to watch what the "Current Gear" is that is commanded by the pcm. If it is only commanding 1st gear then it wont shift and there is a reason for it. A number of engine sensors effect transmission performance. A bad TPS sensor will cause irratic shift timing but would generally be a pretty linear problem and all shifts would happen late, not just the 1-2 shift. I have seen plenty of transmissions with a partially blown channel plate gasket that will cause pressure loss and part throttle slippage in various ranges and this is an internal problem. A pressure guage on the transmission will also verify that at least it can make enough pressure that is being commanded at a given time but I realize this is not something many people have and most shops dont use them.

I'm going to get a transmission from a 98 Buick Regal in the morning. Will I have any ECU problems with the year difference, should I buy the ECU from the Buick? Or will I be ok? I really don't think there will be a difference but I would rather not be surprised.

As long as it's a GS (supercharged) you'll be fine. It's plug and play.

I finished swapping the transmissions today. Thank you Bill for your trans removal wright-up, it was a lot of help. Everything seems good. Any ideas on what I should do with the old one. I can get my $50 core charge, but I thought I would check to see if I had any other options.
