The other day I was at the car wash and my friend owns it and he wasnt busy so I dropped my transmission pan to change out the fluid, and once it was all drained I figured that I washed out the pan, so I should wash out up inside, too, so while the pan was drying, I drove it up into the automatic wash with undercarriage and let it blast it all out, drove it out back of the car wash and just walked around to get all my stuff in the front, since I figured I shouldnt run it too long like that.

So I reinstalled the pan and filled it all back up with dex 6, and then went to go home.

It wont shift out of first gear, it gets up to 5k rpms when Im driving and starts to shake and shudder like the car is going to fall apart until I let off the gas and it slows down, it also makes this horrible grinding sound like 2 pieces of metal being forced together really hard once it begins to shake, but not always.

    Any help?

You might wanna start looking for a new transmission.

So you guys really think my transmission is shot?
Isnt there any sort of fix for it?
You guys seemed to diagnose and judge it pretty quickly, there has to be some kind of part that failed that can be replaced, isnt there?

It was working great earlier in the day, we were even racing it on my empty back road...

I'm seriously hoping your whole story is a joke dude. Cause that...that is ****ing ridiculous. I would look into buying a new transmission. Know how your gas cap for your tank says only unleaded fuel? Well...the same applies to transmissions. Transmission fluid only.

You just destroyed that tranny like a seasoned pro.

Well there was barely any left in there, I drained it all out... the fluid is in my drain container to take to the recycle place later this week.

And it was only like 10 feet, it wasnt in drive that long... I was already literally outside the automatic wash while I was draining it.

And my friend that is an expert at Autozone said it would be fine because the transmission would heat up and all the water would evaporate out anyways, and be displaced by the heavier transmission fluid.

I didnt come here to be made fun of, I need help.

Uhhh, no. Don't listen to autozone techs, EVER.

You clearly didn't let anything dry and or "evaporate".

Replace the trans and be done with it.

You do realize you don't need any prior knowledge to work at Autozone right? What part of Minnesota are you from? I think I can help you out with the 20lb sledge I've got in the garage.

    Btw...

Why the hell are you guys reacting so strongly?
It couldnt possibly hurt today's advanced transmissions to drive it less than 10 ft, I didnt even go over 1.5k rpms.

I know you dont need any but he builds his own engines from scratch, he told me, so I know he knows.

He told me I could just close it back up right after and it would boil off as I drive since it clearly gets hot enough to evaporate water in a working transmission... seems like common sense to me.

Overheat the trans you just lubricated with water, that sounds like a great idea right?

Running a transmission without transmission fluid is like running an engine with no oil. It's just something you ****ing do not do, EVAR.

Ok, so let's say my friend was wrong and me getting some water in it is what is causing this acting up...

How do I get the water out? Should I just drain the fluid and fill it back up again? That should let the water come out and evaporate and then I could put fresh fluid in again... then next time I wash it out I'll let it dry better.

It'll never run the same! Water and oil (transmission fluid in this case) don't mix.
