I have a 2008 GXP with around 44K on it. Recently I started noticing an odd noise coming from the front. I can only describe it as a combination of a solenoid like clicking noise and a slow metal on metal grinding noise. Seems like it coming from the front left. Here are the known symptoms:
- There is no sound when idling.
- While driving the sound goes away when shifting to neutral.
- While driving the sound goes away at exactly 15 mph when coming to a stop.
- The sound intensifies slightly with engine speed but the pitch doesn't change.
- If I give a fairly hard throttle blip while driving the sound goes away for a short time but eventually comes back a few seconds later.
- Shifting seems normal. TapShift works like it should.
I plan on putting it on stands soon. Is there anything I should be focusing on or does anyone know what could be causing the noise? I'm leaning towards a drive-line issue since the sound goes away when sifting to neutral.
