My 99 GTP kinda took a crap on me a couple months ago and has been sitting since. Considering I didnt want to drive it in the winter anyways, figured I'd just wait til spring and is coming up and want to get it going....

For the last 2 weeks, I had issues with the it while driving, it started with it almost hesitating for a split second on random points, at a stop, accelerating, and 75 on the highway. I had a code pop up, I scanned it and came up with a vacuum code, cant remember what it was now, wrote it down erased it and waited to see if it would come back, didnt get it back.
So it was random and only happened once in a while and the last couple days it was running it would die while sitting at a stop and finally the day it crapped out, I headed home and the the trac light popped on and was on for a couple minutes and as I went to turn the corner, it popped out of gear. I pulled it over and shut it off. Couple minutes later started back up and got in gear made it up the road turned again and came out of gear again. Coasted to the driveway and has sat since.

I had a friend of mine that was going to come by and take a look at it, but still hasnt, gotta love unreliable friends..

I was talking about it with some people and one person told me they had a problem like this with their truck and it turned out to be a vacuum line, $30 fixed the line and no more problems. But some other people seem to think there are no vacuum lines that would have anything to do with the trans. So, I'm not really sure on it.

If anyone has any thoughts/ideas or know anything about this please let me know.. I would really appreciate it..

In 1999 your transmission is 100% electronically controlled with no vacuum lines going to it for anything. This typically rules out a vacuum line. However if the engine is running poorly from a large vacuum leak, you could have odd transmission behavior.

TPS and MAF have a lot to do with shifting etc and codes for these two sensors shouldn't be overlooked if the trans is acting funny.

However your description of how you are able to turn it off and move for a little bit then it seems to slip out of gear, sounds a bit like a clogged filter and the trans can't move w/o fluid. I'd suggest starting your diagnosis with a transmission service of pan drop, filter replacement and refill.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
