I had the trans replaced this morning. We verified 2x to make sure it was a tap shift supporting trans from a Comp G(CBB Code). When the trans went, I was in M mode trying to baby it because I knew the clutch packs were shot and when it went, it forced me to put it in D and the gear numbers dissappeared. When I put in the new trans, M mode does not work. We hooked up a scan tool and ran it through all the tests and what not and it recognizes the inputs from the shifters but it doesnt do anything. Do I need to reset something? Also, when in trans screen, when in D, it recognizes it as Drive but when you shift into M mode, it says D 4/3??? Anyone know if that is supposed to be this way? I don't actually use the M mode so its not such a big deal but I'm getting a new car soon and want everything working obviously.

I would check with a scan tool to make sure you dont have code P0826 in the code history or present codes list. The Tapshift signal from each paddle switch goes directly to the pcm and share the same wire. I did have a customer not too long ago run into a similar problem, though there were other problems as well that he noticed, but the tapshift function would not work. Cruise control also would not work and the compass in the driver info center kept saying it needed recalibrated. The cause was a blown Cruise fuse in the underhood fuse/relay box due to something else aftermarket being added to that circuit. The trans worked ok in D mode though it has harsh shifts. I would check the fuse first to make sure it is ok and not causing your side effects. The pcm is in control and as long as it is getting the correct signals from the trans internal mode switch and tapshift paddles then there isnt much left to point at. Since it sounds like this problem happened immediately before the old trans failed I would say the new trans is not causing your problem and its operation is just result of what happened before it was installed when you were limping along the old trans.

We checked with the tech tool. No codes present, atleast not for the transmission, evap canister is a whole other issue. I also have not had any of the other issues you were talking about. I use cruise all the time with my commute and I have no compass issues either. This really seems to be the only issue. I have not checked the fuse yet but will in the morning now that you mention that. Also, I have my radar detector hard wired into my radio although that didn't seem to affect anything as I have had that since I bought the car. I'll keep you posted and thanks.
