I check my trans fluid and it has a burnt smell. Is this something I should be worried about? It hasn't been shifting weird or anything so thats good I guess...The car only has 111,170 miles on it..I'm thinking I should get the fluid and filter changed.

Whats Dex 6? And whats the difference between a normal trans and a hd trans? I mean I know it means Heavy Duty but can a normal trans be converted to an hd or do u have to find a hd trans and mod it to fit?

The HD trans has a stronger differential. It is also bigger so you'll need the HD diff, the diff cover, and an HD axle. Some say you'll need the output shaft from the HD trans but I never used one on my impala when I swapped it and it clicked in place and worked just fine. And as far as the fluid goes, Dexron 6 is a newer standard fluid that is now factory fill in GM vehicles. I think it's a synthetic blend of some times but better for your trans.

OK good deal I'll ask about it....I know eventually I will have to rebuild the trans, because I had to get the trans rebuilt in my 2000 Buick Lesabre and I was told that the trans in the grand prix is the same thing and because of the metal used in the fourth gear start to break down and send fragments through the trans. It cost me 1300.00 to have it done.

If it cost you 1300.00 for that fix, you might want to look at TEP transmissions the next time around. They are very heavy duty and cost around the 1500.
