alright so i have a 98 gp. its an automatic. several years ago i had it at the repair shop for some kind of major repair and.... when i picked it up i saw on the receipt that the transmission fluid had been changed. i was kind of pissed because ive always heard horror storied from people that attempted to change tranny fluid and filter. sure enough i shortly there after noticed that the car would run great but after running a while it would start to shift a lot harder. at the time i took it to the dealership and they said it gave them a generic error code but they couldnt figure anything else out. i took it to a seperate tranny shop and they seemed to think that something was kinked or blocked and that the tranny wasnt getting cooled off- hence why it would work great cold but shift harder the more warmed up it got. in lookin over the how to section the crankcase ventilation valve caught my eye. anyone else have a similar problem? can anyone confirm that replacing the crankcase ventilation valve might probably be the right direction to go in? any other ideas?

crankcase ventilation puts the small amount of blow by gasses that are in the oil pan back into the intake. it functions like a breather in the valve cover, only the gasses get recirculated back into the intake. it has nothing to do with the transmission guy.

mine shifts hard, but i have increased line pressure. I had a Bravada, and those are known to snap your neck on the 1-2 upshift. The problem with those was the shift solonoid i believe. I wouldnt worry about it personally. Drive it till the tranny goes out and order one from Dave.

Well, considering a shop couldn’t find an obvious issue, I would use some SeaFoam Tans Tune. But most likely you need have a solenoid or valve body issue.
And BTW, I totally agree, changing your tranny fluid is a really bad idea. Old fried contaminated fluid is really what you want in any tranny, and never use that Dexron6 it is a total waste of money.

Ten years of continuous driving excitement and counting!
