Thread: external range sensor

Hello, i have a 98 GP GTP - my transmission went out completely. it doesnt go in drive, reverse, nothing...

Anyways, i found a trans from a 2001 GP GTP, low milage, and was wondering about the trans lines and range sensor.

i figure trans lines runs from trans different, diff. fittings? or different angle/path?? but hook up to radiator same way... but where is the range sensor located ??? does n e one have a picture, or general knowledge of its location ??? what is involved with hooking up an external range sensor as opposed to internal???

Oh, also what is the big deal about cooling line fittings and check balls???
do i use my 2001 trans lines/fittings/checkballs or do i keep my 98 trans stuff???

The range sensors aren't an issue since they're both Grand Prixs. As Bill said, swap the lines and you should be fine.

you may or may not need the external range sensor...if you do it's a quick easy install.

You MUST USE A FITTING WITH A CHECKBALL IF THE TRANS CAME WITH ONE!!!! The ONLY exception to this is if the transmission is apart and being rebuilt you can install an internal checkball like what was used on the 97-99 and 04+ units. It is in the channel plate. It doesnt matter where it is located but there has to be one in one spot or another.
