I have a 2000 GTP. It's totally gone. It was driven for months with an erratic shifting problem, now all of a sudden it seems like the chutches are burnt up. Do you guys know about how much is charged for a rebuild if I deliver the trans and reinstall it myself. Thanks.

    Transmissions

I would check out Dave at Triple Edge Performance. He does great work and should be able to hook you up with a rebuilt tranny so you can install it.

I looked into his, they are $1500 and I'd have to drive over three hours to get it. I have a guy local that will remove, rebuild, replace for $1,800 right now. I was just trying to guage his bill for just the rebuild part of that. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have one of Dave's transmissions in it, I just couldn't afford it right now..

I would get one from tripleedgeperformance, only a 3 hour drive, I'd do the drive to have one from there if it was only 3 hours.

He will find a terminal and just ship it via freight. The cost for me was $175, and since i upgraded to an HD diff. I ate the $300 core charge.

I, also, would go with a trans from Dave. It's hard to find local places that do a proper rebuild on 4T65E's. There's a local here that's been to two different shops and had 3 different rebuilds/rebuilt tranny's put in his car, and each of them has given him more problems than he started out with. Either get a low-mileage used one (if you can find one), or save up a little bit and get one from Dave.

BTW, most local places that "rebuild" transmissions just replace the friction material, any broken parts they find, and gaskets. Unless you specifically ask for electronic pieces to be replaced (typically what causes failure in the first place on these transmissions), they'll leave the original ones there. Also, 90% of the time they re-use your torque converter, sometimes without even inspecting it. So, if you add in the cost of at least 4 $50 electronic pieces, a $300+ torque converter, and probably another few hundred in parts that should be replaced, you might as well have bought one from the guy that knows how to properly rebuild a 4T65E and not worry about something stupid failing.

Yeah get a tripleedge transmission and have him install it. If I remember correctly its like $400 for him to install it. I was thinking about driving a total of 12 hours there and back to get the transmission installed. Yeah thats how good I hear he is. I'd rather have someone who knows his **** doing it than a regular shop.
