You don't want to screw with the sidecover just to get fluid out. You're talking removing the axle, lowering the subframe, etc.

The side cover is obvious, it's a ***** to remove--at least it was in my little engine compartment, nothing will fall out when you remove it, and the gasket is a metal/rubber bonded that is reusable. Not worth it unless you plan on getting deeper into the tranny, like the valve body and channel plate. I had the side cover off since it cracked by the torx bolts. Since I was there, I did a few things. You might be able to jack the passenger side up a ways to promote drainage out of the clutch pack area, and in a couple of days let it back down. Just a thought, not sure that would work, but worth a shot.

once again, the car can't sit, you would think there would be an easy way to do this.

Most of the remaining fluid is in the torque converter. You won't get that out. Just drop the pan, replace the 8 qts (of the 12 total), and be happy.
