I have an 01 Grand Prix that's going to need a transmission in the near future. Have any of you guys installed the "Basix" transmission in your car? Any pro's or con's to this transmission? How long did it take to arrive once you ordered it? I heard Dave uses his own fluid mixture on these trannny's. When it comes time to change the fluid on the Basix what fluid would you use. I just use my car as a daily driver btw.

I've never had a Basix transmission or known anyone that did, but there has been a bunch of times I have seen GTP's for sale that had bad transmissions, and I wanted to buy that GTP then swap in the Basix and flip it.

I had the good fortune to pick a solild built transmission for my 2001 and haven't needed to worry about it so far, but if I ever need to a transmission, I would be more than likely to grab up a Basix.

Thanks, I've heard some good things on Dave's rebuilds.

I have an 05 with Dave's Basix trans. It took a couple weeks for him to build it and ship it. There was no fluid mix to my knowledge. I used dex6 when we installed it and an external cooler. That has been a few years ago and the trans is still going strong. The car will die long before the trans ever will. A bonus for me was Dave shipped the trans strapped to a pallet, and the straps were so nice I am using them to hold the ladder portion of my hunting stand.

Thanks, glad you have good luck with it. I was under the impression that they shipped full of tranny fluid.

trannys ship dry, as well as the new tc, its also dry. both need to be filled. you'll need like 14-16 quarts.

98 Buick Regal GS, F body brakes, Caddy STS wheels, tinted tails L36 bottom end, lightly ported heads, 1.95 roller rockers, headers, gen 5 N* 3.0 pulley, FSIC, 42 lb injectors, a BrandonHall rebuilt trans, DHP tuned and AEM water/Meth injection https://goo.gl/gpV5kW

id give them a call and see what your window would be, never know he might have a few built and ready to go. shipping could take 2 weeks easy depending on how far you live from them and who they ship with.

then theres the whole deal where some places wont unload to your house, only a shop or some where with a loading dock or fork lift to unload it.

when i got mine from a member here we used fastenall i had to go get it from the local pick up place.

2 guys can move a transmission without much difficulty, and if you take the spare tire out of the trunk it will fit nicely

I'm having a local shop put it in so I would have it delivered there. I'm in Florida so a week or more shipping sounds about right.

My order has been in for 8 weeks now. I contacted Dave after 6 weeks and he said it would be another couple weeks. I wasn't in a huge rush so not a big deal to me. My wife wants the van back though

Glad I asked a real world customer because his website says 2 weeks. Good things come to those who wait..haha

I hope so because its been a looooong wait and a lot of money. Maybe the Basic trans would be a little quicker shipping??

I must hit Dave at a slow point because it was a couple weeks when I placed my order IIRC. It is definitely worth the wait. I'd buy from him again if I needed to, but this one will last forever.

Rick did you also get an external cooler? 04+ have cooling issues, this is why mine took a crap.

I do have a Hayden cooler that came with the 07 but I did not plan on using it. I had the ZZP transmission in the 04 and never had heat issues with the Transmission. I never seen it go above 185 degrees. It had their aluminum pan but i doubt that made too much of a difference. I will pay close attention to this one when it arrives. I just don't like the idea of cutting into the trans lines for the cooler. I know they sell stand alone coolers but those are way too expensive. Thanks for the heads up.

All we did was re-route the trans lines from the rad to the cooler. I was seeing temps of 220+ without the cooler. now I don't see above 190 on a hot day.
