98 gtp if I kick the trac control off from a dead stop and stab it it spins the tires, then as soon as it shifts it falls on its face is that the ecm pulling power or putting it in abuse mode and killing all the fun off ?

If aren't going fast enough and it shifts to 2nd it'll just stop the wheel spin and "bog" in a way because the revs will go way low again.
1st gear can go all the way out too 45-48mph easy, so if you sping past that wheel speed wise but the car is only doing 25mph then yeah you're going to notice that. Stop doing rolling burnout is what I'd do, less stress on the transmission.
