Thread: Intense Shift kit

I have just acquired an Intense Street/Strip Shift Kit for my GTP. Got it for free ($10 shipping) so I said yes to taking it no matter what, its brand new and never installed! What do people think of these shift kits? I see a lot of TransGo kits but not much on the Intense kit. Also, does my PCM need to be retuned if I get the shift kit installed?

I don't have any direct experience with the Intense kit, but using their website as a reference, it looks like a pretty good kit. Good score for $10. Seems to have everything you need for the install also.

Do the instructions give you a good idea of what springs and spacers give for shift feel? Like, use this spring and shim combo for a softer shift, or this spring and shim combo for a firmer shift...? The Trans-Go kit is kind of a "one size fits all." I think it's more for eliminating the P1811 code than for any kind of performance gains.

You don't need to do anything to the tune, but it might be a good idea to disconnect the battery to reset the T.A.P. values.

Not sure if it was the intense kit, It might have been the thrasher kit where people said it turned your trans into a monster lol, that kit was like $100 though, I think it was thrasher honestly, $10 for a shift kit is a great deal though

I personally installed this a couple of times now. Everything you need minus the fluid is there. Shifts on stock trans settings are quick not hard.
i recommend this kit for its simplistic all you need in a bag but people don't like the spend the money

I think it is more like "one size fits all", says under light/medium throttle I will get crisp shifts and under WOT, I'll get very firm shifts. It's definitely a great deal no matter how you look at it haha. Is it a hard install?

I have the pdf for the install, I'm just not very... "transmission savy" and I also don't have a lift or anything

1) remove pan and fluid
2) remove filter
3) remove accumulator
4)open accumulator
5) replace springs
6) put back together in reverse with new gaskets.

Is this a good kit for helping the trans last a bit longer? I have minor mods relatively, and its my daily driver. So I don't wanna destroy my trans haha

Is over hyped that it "destroys" or "isn't good" for a daily.
For me my trans is already fairly fresh and it's good idea either way. I barely notice it unless you hammer down. It's very snappy and I'm sure my line pressure tables are not stock either

I have read that it will help extend the life of the clutch packs and also lower the KR between shift too because it will shift quicker and firmer. I would like to install it, but only if its gonna help me

It will usually extend the life of your clutch packs. But, it will shorten the life of your input shaft and gear set.

IMO, cars with your power level have no need for a shift kit, unless they are having trans problems. You can do everything you need to with a tuner.

It sounds like you might be apprehensive about the installation. Don't be. It's not simple, but it is easy. Read the write up. Read it again. Do it when you have plenty of time and the trans is cold. Come back with any questions. I can give you the accumulator and pan bolt torque specs off memory.

A manufacturer will say anything to sell a product, I just wanted to hear that stuff from Wbody guys who have experience in the field. And yea I am a bit on the fence about install. I am very comfortable with an engine but a transmission, especially a transaxle, is a whole other beast I have not yet conquered haha

It's quite simple when you think about it. Laying on your back versus leaning over top. It's nothing complicated like the valve body or anything. Literally what you see in the instructions is all you do. Just have brake cleaner to clean the parts, pan and magnet and buy new fluid.

Also I just read that external trans cooler writeup you did, that's gonna be done around the same time as the shift kit probably! Great writeup and it does look incredibly professional haha

Hey thanks! My only regret with that was running the return line back via the hard line and push lock. I should have run the AN line directly back to the trans. Hindsight...
