No matter if you have HID or Halogen, your lights are on all the time unless you manually turn them off like Russosaur said. I have halogens and I absolutely abhor DRL's so during the day, I turn the headlights off when I put my car in gear or just turn on the driving lights which turns the headlights off and the parking lights on.
It's your choice what you want to do, I just gave you the quick easy solution for your problem. There is a write up out there for disabling the DRL.
