what do you guys suggest for tinting? shop or diy

Shop. It may cost alot more but it is well worth it in the long run.
Shop most will even warranty their tint for bubbles and pealing for a while. Nothing looks worse than bubbled tint. I had all 4 of mine done for $80 (rear window was all ready done)
you can get decent $99 full tint jobs in whatever percentage you want with a warranty at a lot of shops in the city.
otherwise i went with a smaller shop a little more outside of town that had a very high quality tint. got 15% all the way around and 5% on the sunroof and windshield strip. cost me a clean $270, but its been on there for two years with no sign of fading or purpling and is very scratch resistant. i have a couple small scratches, but thats because i beat my car like it owes me money.
Shop. Look for Llumar tint, great stuff and most shops that use it, will warranty it for life. The shop I use uses Llumar and still only charges $185 for an entire 4dr. Grand Prix. Not bad in my opinion, especially considering the warranty.
Had my whole car done (nothing on windshield) in 15% lifetime warranty Llumar film for $180 plus tax. That was three and a half years ago, and it still looks great.
Oh Boy, when it comes to tint the whole DIY thing is out the door for me. I brought my 1999 Trans Am & 1981 Truck to Ziebarts to have them done. I just got a quote for my GP for $300. It's a bit steep but the warranty is the kicker. After about a year on my Trans Am I got a wear mark on the tint and they replaced the driver side tint at no cost. They have my business now.
X2 this is a given.
Ask and make sure its metallic film. Meaning its a higher quality film that will not break down in light and turn purple like the cheap "china tint" as we call it around here. It stays black.
I went 15% all around on my car. Love it! ($100.00 total)
Also make sure they can do your rear glass with one single piece of film. If they do it in two or more, you WILL eventually get a separation seam viable and lets in a thin line of light. You can tell if you have a guy who knows what hes doing and takes pride in his work if he can do this. Most say no they cant to take a short cut cause its easier to work with smaller pieces.
Best advice...ask around locally. Talk to people and see who they recommend. You can find out fast who's usually good and who's usually bad after asking a small handful of people.
