Thread: *pics* Polish Tips help.

Hello, I want to polish my tips, they are rusted to hell and someone from the forums told me to use 120 grit sand paper. I started on my tips and my neighbor came out and said I am going remove the chrome from the tips with that sand paper. Now im confused what should I do, use the sand paper then buy polisher or I don't need the sand paper at all?

This is what they look like:

THERE IS NO CHROME, its aluminum. Clean away and get rid of the nasty then hit your neighbor on the forward assist.

There is no chrome on the tips. Continue sanding as you were; you can go to a finer grit after to smooth the aluminum out.

I did as above, and use a small piece of SOS pad every few washes to keep the "silver" colour alive.

Yes post pics. All I ever cleaned was the outer part.

Thank you, you are right, looks like I bought a new exhaust tip.

expect to do that every 2 weeks if you want them to keep looking that way.

alright, I still got 2-3 sheets of sand paper left, should not be a problem. I do not mind doing them every 2-3 weeks, because I wash my car by hand every 2-3 weeks, I just hit them with the sand paper every time I wash my car. Should be easy once they are sanded for the first time. I was reading your sig, why you sell your Super charged GP for a normal GP?

Nope, It just depends how far you want to go with it.I finished mine up with 1500 (I wetsanded them at the end.) If you hit them with mothers aluminum polish, you can get a mirror shine.

I just use a angle die grinder with a green scot brit pad, works like a charm.

And just use purple power or brake cleaner on a rag every few weeks and all that gunk will come right off.

And yes, just remove the rear bumper and paint it to match the front. Doing it on the car is a pain.

Finished, I am exhausted! I hit them with some metal and chrome polisher after, give them a little shine.

Thanks, I got some brake cleaner I can use. that paint job looks good! Any sanding or priming needed? How do I remove the 3 black looking clips holding it on?

I have many more pictures of the process in my members ride thread.

But there is 10-15 black push in clips and 2 bolts that hold the bumper to the car. I sanded, primed and painted it all, then clear coat. I added the inlay from Reflective concepts at the same time.

Honestly I only used 800 grit and wet sanded everytime I needed to sand it. I used a grease remover between coats to keep it clean. That inlay can be bought for 10-20 bucks from the place I said before. They make all sorts of inlays/overlays for our cars.

I used to sand my stock tips for a while. I got sick of sanding it all the time and I really liked the dual tips on each side look so I invested money in the "Magnaflow 35168" for each side. They look great!
