Sure it puts a little extra light on the road. It also puts a LOT of extra light into the faces of oncoming traffic. If you're 12 it probably won't affect you, but older drivers are going to suffer when the glare from those HIDs hits their eyes. You can't rely on people to flash their brights to let you know your lights are blinding them.

You are aware even if you aim it properly, HIDs in any sort of reflector housing scatter a ton, right? As many GPs and other cars as their are around here with HIDs in stock housings, I'm fully aware of how awful it is at night. After seeing them in my own car and someone else driving it, I knew they had to go.

Go over to HIDPlanet and try and tell them that HIDs in stock housings is a good idea. Half of them will laugh at you, the other half will give you a detailed explanation on the specifics of why HIDs in reflector housings is dangerous and stupid.

And as far as the general public goes, I don't know how many times I've heard "I hate people with those stupid blue lights" since half of everyone seems to put 8000k bulbs on up in their lights.

were are ppl buying the stock housings at?, i cant find any

ebay. you can get a set for 60-70 anymore. and if you want em black you can easily bake em open, mask off the rear reflector, and paint them black. use gloss black to reflect light a bit better. output will be significantly better than the $120 already black ones on ebay, and they'll look better.

I would really like to put projectors with HIDs in them. I see alot of projectors on ebay. What ones are the better ones of the set as far as light output goes. I know retro fit would be alot better but with work and class I really do not have time to do a large project like that.

It's actually pretty easy to do a retro. As far as what is "best" get spyders. But that said, you'd still be better off to take a day off and do a retro.

Not to mention it's MUCH better to put them in fresh housings so if you order new housings, you can take however long you want to do the retro and then keep the old lights in the mean time.

any good how to's for retros? I guess I could look into it if it is truly that much better

would it be hard to set it up so there would be high low functionality? I would want two different HIDs in there I havent read good things about the bi whatever there called. Or am I wrong

Actually you can use a single bulb. The Morimoto has a cutoff shield and controller. When the cutoff shield is lowered (which can be triggered by your high beam switch just like stock) it lets more light out of the projector and gives you your high beam. That cutoff shield is wired up and simply needs to be plugged into the ballast. When you hit your high beam switch, it sends the signal to the ballast which in turn sends that signal to the projector cutoff shield

Another option to avoid the trouble of installing projectors is to just put HID's in the highbeam location. When you need extra light switch on your highs and when someone approaches go to your lows until they pass. Leave your lows stock.

That said, there isn't a "trouble" of installing projectors, merely a lack of motivation and willingness to learn and understand.
Anyone can do a retrofit, but the obscure fear most people have gives them a bit of a mental block and even when the obviously is hanging in front of them and it makes no sense and they freak out and desire to do it even less.

If you have an oven, a cutoff tool or a dremel, and some basic tools that everyone should own, there is literally nothing hard about doing a retrofit.

I am very interested in learning the steps and the parts I would need in order to put a retro together. the headlights that I have right now are absolute crap. is Morimoto a retro projector brand?

all you need a new headlights and a retrofit kit. and hids if you dont already.

If you don't need HIDs:
Bi-xenon: Morimoto Mini H1 5.0 - HID Projectors from The Retrofit Source Inc select some bulbs too. keep it on LHD and keep the Mini Gatling Gun shrouds selected

If you DO need HIDs:
Bi-xenon Morimoto Mini Stage III Kit (H1) - Complete Retrofit Kits from The Retrofit Source Inc for the relay select 9007/9004, and for bulbs get anything but the 3000k pretty much. keep it on LHD, and keep the mini gatling gun shrouds. i'd also toss on the resealing glue too.

And I am sorry but our stock housing are fugly, they should have never been a 2 piece design.

They're not that bad. I've actually got a ton of compliments from the guys over at HID planet for my retro. There is some REALLY amazing stuff over there though... *drool*

Anyone putting HIDs in stock halogen housings or using ebay projectors probably ought to avoid that forum though, they'll make you cry and call your a ricer boy. Cause you are.
