its your project, im just tossing ideas your way. i just think it will look better with something over it to hide the metal all together. unless you metal is dead flat and smooth as glass it wont look great.

ok thanks man...we will see when the time comes...im thinking about getting another piece of the trim that goes around guages/radio/climate control and cut it because when i went to work this afternoon i realized that it is slanted pretty far back and im thinking i want it more flat. do you have any idea on what to use to cut it? like a dremel or a razor knife and just keep going over the cut?

i own a regal so im not really familiar with your interior.

if you like diamond plate do that, it needs nothing done to it. the smooth looks nice too. either way that stuff looks nice.

have you got the wiring all figured out or thats to come later? that to me seems to be the most challenging part. except for the added gauges like alt volts, boost and oil pressure. those should be easy. but the speedo, w temp and all the idiot lights have to be dealt with.

i just posted a wanted add for a old cluster so im gonna just buy like one or two guages at a time and try to figure them out as i go and im thinking of fuel pressure instead of oil pressure and as far as the other lights go im still trying to work that out. do you got any idea how thick the plastic is? not the clear pice but the one with all the gaps for the lights? and what would you think of plastidip for covering up the metal? that would give it a rubbery feel right?

my cluster was maybe 1/8 inch thick, its not thick at all, a dremel tool should cut trough it like butter.

of all the gauges out there, you want a oil pressure gauge.

never touched that plisti dip stuff, but that also could work out.

with any luck maybe you can flush mount the idiot lights in the metal and place them around the cluster, or relocate them elsewhere.

just had a brain fart, lol if you were to tint clear plexi glass for a cover plate, then the idiot lights would shine through the tinted glass and be out of sight if not lit. thinking out loud....like i said the skys the limit on ideas. its all left to your ability's and budget.

That tint things a good idea. And flush mounting the idiot lights was what I had in mind. If I have anymore ideas ill throw them up here or if anyone else has any ideas its much appreciated. thanks for all the help so far now I think I just wait for parts to be purchased and then get to work. Thanks for evErything!

no problem, your now bound by GPF rules to taking pics of this build.......in detail.

depending on the wiring situation this looks like something i may want to do someday as well.

What about these for speedo and tach and then paint the trim ring red to match the lights in the car and then using the other gauges that have the chrome trim ring for the others cuz then the bigger gauges would match and the smaller would match or would this be stupid?
    VDO Vision<br/> Programmable Speedometer #437-153, Discount e-Gauges.com
VDO Vision Tachometer, Programmable 0-7000RPM Part #333-155, Discount e-Gauges.com
I want to do this cuz i'm being really picky but i dont like the way the numbers are on the fuel level guage on the vdo gauges

if at all possible, i'd try to find a brand you like for all the gauges so they are all the same style.

you could even mount a aeroforce or wide band in there, so many options.

i wanna put the aeroforce down by the ash tray because im not a big fan of the digital and i dont think it would go the best with the analog guages. but i got an a/c to fix so it depends on the cost of that when i get any farther than pen and paper
