my friend tinted his with VHT with no clear coat and it came out nice it was shinny to i dont know how he did it because everyone i seen who used VHT came out flat and dull with no clear i tinted mine with film and they look like this.

if you use actual tint the lighting will shine through better IMO

for prep on other cars i usually just wipe it down with a rag that ive sprayed with brake clean (i never let my cars get dirty) i dont wanna clear coat it because then its harder to remove if i just spray it on there then it come off with carb clean i like always having that as an option

if you wet sand the vht after its dry and buff it should shine.

i did 2 coats of vht, and 5 coats of clear wet sanded the clear and buffed them up. 2 coats is not blacked out, but dark cherry look, 3 coats or more and its blacked out good. i wanted my brake lights to be seen during the day time.

    stock daytime lights on

    tinted daytime. no lights.

and what i got at night.

part of the prep is to wet sand or Scotch brite pad the lens then clean with a prep spray. tape them off and then spray em. sanding them lets the vht bond better. and they can always be buffed back to a stock shine if you wanted to.

note how dull the tail light looks.

Use VHT, mine are real shiny. i wet sanded stock lights, then VHT, wet sanded, Ultimate Compound (to get scratches out), 2nd coat VHT, wet sanded, Ultimate Compound, 3rd coat VHT, wet sanded, utimate compound. Then came about 5 coats of clear with wet sanding and ultimate compounded as well. Took me a whole day to do it, but the end results were very good and shiny.

Bingo! What I would do....avoid VHT is u can and have him tint them.....one of the best mods i've done...VHT can look good if done right but Flip uses actually automotive paint w/ clear and it stands up the the elements just like yours cars paint.

These are mine with VHT. 3 coats of VHT, 5 coats of clear, 2000 grit wet sand, then another 2 beefier coats of clear. Still have to polish and wax one more time. Needs more shiny
