Did none of the GP's come with a hood light? I was wanting to put one in, but did not know if they came with one originally, or is it a DIY project with a mercury switch?
If my pics are not working, please email me, I may have moved the pics on a different page on Photobucket. Thanks

None that I am aware of came with an under the hood light. Sucks really. I had pondered the thought of some LED strips tied into either a mercury switch or a micro switch of some kind.

That is what I was thinking. I will be attending a car show/Cruise and was thinking of taking one of those under the cabinet, battery lights and using that as a temp solution.

How would you hook that up? Does that have a built in mercury switch or pressure switch?

At this point, they all have a merc switch or a weighted microswitch. In any event, it is self-contained.

I got one of those ones out of a Chevy truck that you can turn on and off and the light comes out and will reach all the way around the car. When you're done, you just wind it back up. Only problem, I can't find a bare spot big enough to mount it anywhere under the hood. LOL! Really too big to mount to the bottom of the hood itself.

Thats why I think LED lighting with some kind of micro switch would work better. I'll have to double check on what I thought I saw, but I believe there was a tab of some type in the hinge area of the hood that would have worked perfectly for activating a micro switch, but I didnt really check it closely for its mounting possibilities.

Geesh, many moon ago when I worked as an industrial electronics and electrical tech, I had access to a machine shop where I could design and fab stuff up like this in no time at all. Wasnt a super high paying job, but ohhh how I loved the work.

I would say that its possible that many of the wives of members on here have been touched by the work I did then.
