Call around to body shops and ask. Certain colors of paint can cost much more.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Im not a half bad painter, so what if i do all the prep work myself this summer and buy some decent quality automotive paint and do it myself with a HPLV gun. Im repainting it the same color which is white so im feeling i could do a pretty decent job. What do you think? Paint it myself or have a shop do it for a few grand.

HVLP* white is cheap and you can do it yourself for cheaper but dont under estimate maaco either if you do the body work you can take it to them to do a BC/CC or a single stage for cheaper

Maaco is and always will be junk. When a shop charges less for a paint job than quality materials cost, that should tell you there is an issue.

I've seen some Maaco paint jobs come out quite nice actually....

for 99.95 you got what you paid for, zero prep work, just paint, and out the door. looked like crap too.

worse than Macao if that's possible.

and macao does suck, they dont do prep work right at all, they cut every corner possible too. but then again what do you want for a 300 dollar paint job?

Exactly... the OP said he's doing his own prep work... then again, he wants a color change too... that's going to come down to his individual Maaco. Some Maaco painters take pride in their work, some don't give a damn.
