well as stated in my intro thread.. im not a noob to forums or HID's, and i do know how to search, ive searched for hours, days, and weeks... but damn there are a lot of miss matched threads both here and other sites and info thats making it very hard to understand how to puut HID's in my GP, because alot of threads aarre geared toowards '04 and newer GP's in which they have 2 light bulbs and not one like in mine... i wish it was as simple as they were to install in my Trailblazer.. i have a 35W 9006 kit for my lows and 880 kit for my fogs for my TBSS.. and the only thing i had to worry about was a DRL Killer... because the auto lights on a TB dont come on until you put the truck into gear.. not like the GP to where the minute i put the key in the ignition, the lights come on... and when doing a DRL killer on the TB, it automatically kills perimeter lighting, so i didnt have to worry about that either...

so here goes my questions and concerns...

i have a 2001 GP, so the model years that fit the HID build are 97-03 correct? so pulling the 10 amp fuse for the DRL's/Auto headlights wont work since my car is an '01.. so ive gotten that far.. also my DRL's dont work as the module is faulty, and im really not conerned with fixxing it.. just one less thing to worry about wih HID's...

so through my research, ive seen that the 9007 bulbs are the bulbs im after correct? and bi xenon since the low/hi is all one bulb correct? and for fogs, i need 880's... so what do i have to do to kill my auto headlights, and to kill the perimeter lighting when hitting the key fob?

i know how to connect HID's and i know about the relay harness.. same thing applies for the trailblazers and i have gotten all my kits from VVME, so im very familiar with the products and customer service and i am hapy with VVME...

any inut is appreciated.. and sorry for beaing a dead horse on this.. but going from HID's in my SS to regular lights in my GP.. its just terrible...

I have a 97 gtp and i had to put a new bcm (body control module). my car used to have drl's with the old bcm. then when i got the new bcm it was programmed with the new auto headlights that come on when it starts to get dark . Some people are saying its ok to keep the automatic headlights. but it seems bad to me when you turn the key to on and the light come on and then you go to start it and the turn off and then on when the car is running i just pulled the drl fuse and it worked for me because i control when my headlight are turned on and off. Hope this is useful because i just recently installed the vvme bi xenon 8k digital slim hid's.

Thx for the reply.. as stated earlier,pulling the fuse doesn't work for me since my GT is an '01... and I'm certain retaining auto headlights will cause premature failure of my ballasts.. I have hid's in my TBSS, so I know the ropes of hid's... the auto headlights don't come on with key ignition on the SS, but my GP GT, the lights come on the instant the key is in the ignition.. so I'm looking to disable my auto headlights and perimeter lighting, and if I need to know anything special about hid's (besides the relay harness, etc..which I also have for my SS' hid's)

you could maybe try disabling the drl module i think every gp has one even with auto headlights but im not 100% sure. That is all i could think of because i had the same problem but i just pulled the fuse and now i have manual headlights.

do you have any pics of your trailblazer? I cant think of anything else to help you out with maybe take it to a dealer and ask for their opinion?

I'm basically in the same situation with my 01 GTP... I wanted to go with hid lights, but Idk if I really wanna screw with disabling auto lights and drls and perimiter lights... Might just be stuck with regular old bulbs I suppose.

I might be totally off on this but IIRC the owners manual for my '98 said something about perimeter lighting. I think there was some button/key sequence where you could turn off the headlight flash and all of that. Might be worth looking into that possibility. Sorry I'm not of much help but lights aren't exactly my forte haha.

^ ^ True that. The owners manual taught me that when you're buried in mud up past the edge of the rim it helps to turn off traction control (I learned this after the fact though ). Dummy me was wondering why in the heck I couldn't spin the tires in mud....turned off traction control out of desperation, did a bit of rocking and eventually got it out. Would'a been a lot easier if it weren't for technology lol.

Regarding HID fogs; I might be able to let ya know in a couple weeks. I'm doing 4300k H3C HID's in glass Autopia fog housings with LED halo rings (HID's on their own circuit and LED halos on another circuit). I'm hoping I'll finally have some bright light.

HIDs in stock fog light housings will melt the plastic.

01+ cars just pull the drl/auto light heat sink behind the headlight switch in the side panel.

I just ran 6k hid fogs in my grand prix and upgraded the headlight bulbs to silverstar ultras (nighthawk platinums are better though).

I disabled my drl by disconnecting the heat sink inside the panel of the dash on the left hand side. There should be a plastic cover on the far left of the dash that you can get to when you open the door. There was a connector there attached to the heat sink for it that did the trick for mine.

Maybe do a search for disabling drl. I know there are a couple of different processes for the different years. I think yours should be the same as mine though because mine was a 2002.

how often is the failure rate for melted fog housings? all the threads i read on here, as long as i keep them at 35W everyone was saying they didnt have problems... i have HID fogs on my SS and the housing is way smaller then whats on the GP, and in the year theyve been in there, there hasnt been a meltiing issue??

ok, so even though my DRL's are dead as it is (faulty heat sink) i should still disconect that? then i wont have to worry about auto head lights?

and how often, or how many horror stories are there about melted housings for HID fogs? as i stated in my reply earlier, my fog light housing is smaller in my SS then on the GP, and ive had my HIDs in there for over a year, and no melted housings for me there.. were you using 35W or 55W HID's, because in the trailblazers, if you use 55W, thats what melts the housings for us, 35W and we're safe

Yea, I saw that video already.. but all he did was pull the fuse.. that only works for 97-00 models.. '01 and up, require more work or as stated above, the heat sink plug disconnect... I'll give that a try on my next day off, and report back here...

I'm still interested in the fog light HID issues that could arise, so I'm waiting for replies on those... thx for searching though
