Thread: Polished Supercharger and Alternator

Ok, after seeing what Don did to his supercharger with just his dremel and a wire brush. I decided that I should try to do the same thing. So over the course of 2 weekends I spent about 3 hours trying to clean up the supercharger and alternator. I think they came out pretty good for being on the car. Let me know what you guys think. I know there is still more work to do under there.

Alternator looks much better, though I dont know if its lighting or angle, the blower doesnt seem to have exhibited the same improvement.

Probably because the blower isn't as smooth as the alternator. But it is much better than it was before.

Looks good, what did you use on the blower/Alternator? Curious how you did it, looks much better...

Dude, I have seen other polished chargers, and they look like they were chromed,,, I want to do this but have no idea how... Brian can do a great job, but i dont want my car down for a month

Thats why i'm interested in this. I don't want my car down for a month, I like driving it. Hell i'm dying now that my car is down because i'm waiting for a couple aftermarket parts to arrive. I hope like hell they arrive Friday, I really want to drive it this weekend if I ain't working!

All I did was use my dremel with a wire brush, a hand held wire brush, and some elbow grease. The hand held brush looked like a toohbrush with wire bristles. No compund or anything, just some air in a can to blow off the dust and dirt. And I never took anything off the car, except I did remove my custom painted covers, so they wouldn't get damaged.

If you don't want down time for more than it takes to do the swap of the polished one, then buy a core and send it in ahead of time.

How much does something like that roughly cost to do labor wise Farns?

Yeah I need to send mine to Farns to be done. Just too many projects on the table at once for me. Looks sweet when its high polished!

I'd do this but I already have a TripleEdgePerf case on my car. I'd have to get another custom TEP case w/ 72mm opening and extra rotor pack to do this project. I already have an extra snout so i'd be good there. I'd have another case which most likely I couldn't sell and I really don't want to put it on the other GTP.

How long did that take you just out of curosity?

And another thing, what could I use to seal in the light polish? Lets say I use a wire brush and clean mine up real nice... I need to put something on it to not look like **** again, right? Should I just use a billet polish?

Now why on earth would I want to polish something for you??????

And why would I want to have something completely shiny when it gets completely covered by my custom engine cover? If anything would become compeltely polished it would be the alternator. And if thats the case I would just buy one already nice and polished, since my car is now 5 years old, it probably won't be too long before things like that will need replacing.

And this is why I don't need a completely shiny supercharger

Only took me a couple of hours to do. If you want to spend even more time on it and make it look even better you can. There are some areas that were a little harder to get to than others. Like trying to get under the fuel rails.

But I can help you in the department of changing out those ugly black motor mounts for some to go with your dog bones and breather.
