So last week a temp came in and is gonna work for the next 3 weeks covering one of the maintenance guys and i noticed he had a 40th aniversary gp so i went up to him during lunch and talked to him and he had no idea his car was any different than a regular gp...so i got to thinking this morning what if i offered him 50 bucks for his roof rails since he doesnt care that his car is a special edition would it be possible to take them off without messing anything up on the roof? If so i think i just scored a cheap set of roof rail!

you have to replace them with another set of channels from a stock car otherwise there will be a big open channel on both sides of the roof and it looks like ****. ask me how i know.

where the roof rails sit. if you take them out, or the stock metal piece that is there now, it looks like this:

now, that picture does have some left over epoxy in the channels from me not really cleaning them out, but you get the idea. when you pull the roof rails out you need to put the stock channeling back, but normally when you pull them off you bend them and ruin them. therefore you need to buy them new from a dealer and im not sure if you can get them anymore.

OOOHHHH....alright i get it now.....i could see how that would be a problem now if your taking them off another car that will still be driven. It would look terrible lol.

see the pictures above? yeah, my car.

the stock channel fillers are thin metal. the second you start trying them out youll bend them to hell and they wont go back in right. you need BRAND NEW ones. the roof rails at least you can get out without breaking them.

I bent a set of those up at a junk yard. I was trying to get some fillers for a friend and I was very careful but they still got bent and scratched. I know you want roof rails but if something happens to this guy's car because it gets scratched or you end up bending your channel fillers you could end up spending more than what the roof rails cost. Not saying you would damage it at all but **** happens.
