JLM HID kits

Has anyone used the JLM kits from amazon? They're kinda cheap, and I don't know anything about HIDs

I havn't used them but I do know there are some of use (including me) that uses VVME for HID headlights

Bought couple from Amazon, had some issues with power pack failing. However, after being sent a replacement, 1.5 years later with no problems what so ever. I'd get 2 kits, one to install and one for immediate replacement while you're waiting for the spares to arrive.

Also, make sure you mask off the bottom 180 degrees of the HID bulb with aluminum foil, otherwise you'll be blinding the oncoming drivers and just generally piss alot of people off. If you need directions, PM me, and I'll write up a detailed instructions on making the foil shield for the bulbs.

P.S. (Just a personal opinion) do not get anything above 5K if you want a "factory" look. 6 and up are just too blue, and will create a ebay-ghetto-rigged-hid effect. Also, there's a higher chance of a pullover and explaining why you stuck HIDs in a standard headlight.

Have you ever seen someone put an HID bulb into a standard housing without one? Just looks like a huge blob of light. If you shield the bottom 180 of the HID bulb, then you get only the top emitting light, so it travels up, bounces off the reflector and down on the road surface instead of down and creating "high-beam" effect. Plus it just makes it look much cleaner and more OEM. I am enclosing the picture I shot during the day, so you can see the light pattern inside the headlight. Notice that only the top half of the headlight is actually lit up.

As far as creating a shield, you cut a piece of foil the length of the bulb, and stick it between the bulb and the wire running on the bottom of it. Bend it down on both sides so it's tight against the wire, and then up on both sides in shape of a "W" with wire and bulb being in the middle. Trim the sides so that the foil covers most of the bulb on both sides and light will only be directed up and not to the sides or down. You might have to play with the settings to get it where you want it. This works as a quick fix to the light dispersion problem found in less expensive HID kits. I am sure there's a better way to do this, but this worked in my case.
