I was at Autozone today and saw they had do-it-yourself tint kits. Are they good, and are they worth it?

If you've never tinted before, I wouldn't do it. Period.

Tinting is an Art. It takes alot of practice to do it.

If you've never done it and want to burn some money, try it yourself til you get it right.

otherwise just have someone do it for you

Ever see a car with purple peeling, bubly tint? That person tried to do it themselves.

The Autozone kits are usually low quality tint....I've used it a few times on some friends cars but I wouldn't recommend it. If you've never tinted before and you really want to try, buy one roll and give it a shot. Make sure to not do it in the sunlight, your spray lubricant will dry up too quickly and make the tint hard to move into position...When I used it the windows came out ok, but I dont think you will be able to do the back window if you haven't tinted before. Its tricky and takes some experience...Not sure what the rates are in your area, shops around here charge about $150. If you can at least get your passenger windows done, then send it to a shop to do the back, you'll save a lot of money...If you're any good at it, buy a better quality film such as Llumar or Johnson, a little more money, but its actually a good film...You'll need some spray, a squeege, window tinting knife, lint free towel and a plastic card to push the water out from under the film.

yeah, i got my 2door GP done professionally for $170 at my cousin's ex's place (hope the warranty is still void then lol) but it looks great and was well worth it. i got whatever % tint i wanted and if i get pulled over he would re-do it to a lighter tint.

ya dont do it yourself. a place by me did a friend of mines acura vigor (4 door) for $128 and lifetime warrenty. they removed old tint, did 35% all the way around and a 6 inch banner on the windshield. the defrosterlines have no trace of any bubbles and looks just as good as factory tinted glass.

i would deffinately reccomend getting it done professionally, that way there will be better results and a lifetime warrenty(at most places check on that first)

Very much so. I got mine done for $170. Granted I have a coupe but come on now... I would say $200-250 would be an absolute MAXIMUM.
aim for $150 range that way you know you'll get what you pay for and find a good shop you like. Talk to friends ask around. I know I'm picky about who works on my stuff.

To the OG poster.....I'd give this a shot. It's pretty easy, especially the back window.

You'll never learn if you don't give it a shot, if you F*** it up, you're out $10 big deal...
The purple peel is b/c it was sh***y tint, not b/c they did it wrong
The best tint I have found for diy is 5% and the tint at the autoparts places isn't bad quality, Ive had it on my wife's Astro for almost 10 years now...

My couch pulls out, but, I don't...
