Is there a write up on this? I didn't find much in the search. I looked on youtube and most of the videos use a tool, which I found can be rented for about $60 or so. I've heard of a baseball bat method, too.

I know heat needs to be applied to the paint. Does a hair dryer get hot enough or does it need to be a heat gun, specifically? My bride's hair dryer gets a surface hot enough that it's really unpleasant to touch. Is there a "magic" surface temperature to achieve? Any tips on this would be great.

FYI, DO NOT DO OPTION #1!

do the heat with a rubber mallet method otherwise your fenders are gonna be all sorts of ****ed up when youre done. i rolled mine with this method and it worked perfectly. i didnt even crack the paint.

I was thinking the baseball bat trick would be less evasive. Beating on sheet metal just doesn't sit well with me. Doesn't anything want to pucker when doing it this way?

no, not at all. the fenders are actually very strong and mine didnt warp in the least. however, you have to figure out how hard you actually have to hit it to get it to start bending. start out soft and get harder until you get to the point where it starts to move, then work your way around. also, KEEP THE FENDER HOT. hot enough that you cant touch it with your hands for more than a few seconds.

the 'baseball bat' method relies on you lifting the car up, shoving a bat between the tire and fender, and then lowering the car onto the bat a little. you can do the same thing with rolled up newspaper to be honest. this method brings a lot of risk for lowering the car too far onto the bat and giving your fender an absolutely nasty crease.
