yeah that doesnt look too horrible but it, i think it looks different a lil more on the not good side.

Well smoothing the spoiler into the trunk is going to be a little too much, cause after looking at gaps and stuff, it's gonna be too much to just bondo the gaps and everything.

Sooo back to square one with the ideas. It doesnt look too bad without the spoiler, does anybody know how to do the raised stock spoiler like that yellow GP in the pics above?

The raised stock spoiler was just pedestals made/modified to fit as far as I know. The only pre-fit pedestals that would just bolt on are by AEDCentral and I'm sure you could buy a new spoiler for a little more than them.

I doubt I will ever actually go no spoiler myself. If I ever have the money I might have different "modes" for the GP. Swap wheels, trunks, etc. for different events or moods. Probably not.

As for other ideas there are SLP knock-off spoilers that are out now, could always add rams to the bottom so it sits flush and raises at speed ala Bugatti Veyron , etc.

Definately wouldn't mold the stocker or any spoiler to the trunk.

hey what do you guys think of the smooth sides without that molding bar, like the richard petty one has? I've thought of doing that but kind of have mixed feelings about it, I dont know if that would look that great on a silver car too.

Shaving the side molding looks smooth, but not a good idea if you actually drive your car, and park it in parking lots with other people you don't trust. One door ding, and thats all she wrote.

I had pondered the idea to shave mine when I was doing all the body work to my car, but thought realistically for a while and realized it would be a pretty stupid move for myself to do it.

Smoothing out my bumpers was a big enough gamble as it was, but well worth that effort still to this day.

    Farnsworth's Flame

I even got a good complement from the owner/creator of the Petty Prototype on my bumpers. He wished he would of thought of that I remember him saying to me once on the phone. LOL

I like the shaved look. Stinks they used guide pins. I wanted to shave mine, alnog with the door handles, trunk lock, bumber and mold the air dam, BUT it is hard to justify dumping $$ into the GP lately. Camaro is giving me second thoughts.

Actually, I think it looks best on silver cars. I shaved mine on my 98 GTP back in 1999. Here's a few pics of my old one (with me and new owner) and various other members' GPs in silver. I have pics of almost every color GP with the side moulding shaved. I wish GM wouldn't have put the guide pins on them, expensive to get done. I want to do a bunch of custom work on my 99 GTP as well, but short on $$$. Shouldn't be too bad for you with your job though.

Yeah, that is one of my all-time favorite GP pics. Can't wait to someday get mine shaved again on the 99. Can't decide if I'll shave the handles or stick with my handle swap. That one is I believe DaytonaTR on CGP.

Where would one find a LIMITED Edition (sorry, that's what I was asking about before) spoiler? The only resources I can think of would be eBay and junkyards.... neither one seems to be yielding results.

Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market would be a good place.

But you have to do some digging and make a lot of phone calls. They only list them as a "Grand Prix" of that year, no special models are ever noted on it.

Do your research, its easy to come up with parts through there that others are willing to pay $300.00 + for on ebay. Ya...I found a few sets of those (wink-wink) through there.

I got lucky on mine and bought it off a major demod on the other forum. Things go fast there, gotta stay on top of new posts in that section.
It may take some time, like finding roof rails. Gotta make lots of calls and search often. Eventually you'll find one.

Actually the only car I've ever owned that NEVER had a door ding was my first GTP with them shaved. Worth the risk to me!!

I even got a good complement from the owner/creator of the Petty Prototype on my bumpers. He wished he would of thought of that I remember him saying to me once on the phone. LOL
Yeah, I love your de-rib. I've wanted to do that since I saw the first de-ribbed GP, the So-Lo GP. Already had my side moldings shaved by the time I first saw it though (1999).

Where would one find a LIMITED Edition (sorry, that's what I was asking about before) spoiler? The only resources I can think of would be eBay and junkyards.... neither one seems to be yielding results.
Hard to come by. You're options are pretty "Limited". A dealership or parts vendor (GMPD or Monster, etc.) will definately have it, but will cost you $450-800+ new. Ed Morad on rare occassions. Salvage yards (car-parts is a decent search), never seen one at a yard under $200 so far. Classifieds, rare and still in the $200+ to $400 range used. Ebay, again rare and $200+ used. Another option that has actually worked is $$$ and a stock spoiler in the same color to an owner of one that doesn't know or care.

Do your research, its easy to come up with parts through there that others are willing to pay $300.00 + for on ebay. Ya...I found a few sets of those (wink-wink) through there.
Only ever got maybe 5 or so of my 20+ sets of rails I've owned through car-parts yards. Most were through GM, back warehouses, dealer repairs, and a few half sets from a member here (other halves again GM). Sold all of my sets at a loss or even except my last 5 sets I was getting rid of (and I told everyone that asked the exact price I paid for those ones). 6th set paid for Ebay fees and all totalled I still lost money. I planned on modifying them to make sets for other makes and models, but as with everything else plans changed. Most likely won't go through with the products I was planning now. GM downsizing, poor real estate market, and going back to school to complete my degree took the funding for business projects away. If money allows I will also be donating one set of rails to the raffle at BGPM08.

Like the others said, lots of searching and calling and you can find what you're looking for. Gotta be resourceful and dedicated.

Oh and so you don't waste any time with your search, Limited Editions only came in white, blue, and silver. So limit your searches to that.

GR8racingfool, that farnsworth flames Grand prix looks good, that's what I'm going to do with my front and rear bumpers, I'm shaving them and I'm smoothing out and filling in the lower rear bumper where it says pontiac, the pontiac symbol and plate in the front bumper too. I just dont really like the grooves in the bumpers, on the front it looks like whiskers or something.

What does everyone mean when they talk about the guide pins that they used for the side moldings, arent the whole things just double sided taped on? How do I take them off?

LowlyfeGTP, yeah i guess your right that does look pretty sweet on the silver GP's, it kind of makes it look like it has a lil shorter wheelbase, GTOish kinda in the first pic you posted. Hey how did you do the vinyl on the headlights? and did the high beams seam more directed like with them showing through a circle only?

hey, group question, do you guys think my GP looks good with the silver/blue/ and black rims, or do you think it would look better if all the blue parts were painted black?? Let me know I'm thinking about maybe changing them, but I still a little iffie. You can check all the angle shots here http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2333123

Thanks, thats still my car, just changed the brakes (to F-Body Fronts), hood (to a MPD F1), and rims (to 18" HP Racing) since those pictures. The bumpers are "filled" not "shaved" as people keep referring to them as. The grooves are still there, just filled in, correctly mind you. if i get bumped...the filler will flex with the plastic bumper and will not break out under low impact. You use to hard of a filler, and pushing with your hand will cause the filler to break out ever time. Yes...people have tried to use Bondo or POLY Putty body putty and then later asked me why that happened.

What does everyone mean when they talk about the guide pins that they used for the side moldings, arent the whole things just double sided taped on? How do I take them off?
When you pull the door moldings off there are little plastic fingers/guide pins that are part of the trim that go into holes on the side of the car, that way, they will be even/straight when they are installed on the line when the cars are being assembled. If you remove them, you will have some holes to weld shut on the actual body of the car before your done. Another reason why people don't mess with shaving them.

Yeah, back when I was doing this to my first GTP in 99, I pulled the moulding off and...?! Three guide holes in the doors and two in the rear quarters. So, as stated, they had to be welded, etc. and repainted. I also had an SD hood, WW spoiler, shaved trunk, hash marks, cross braces, headlight covers, and taillights all painted at the same time as the side moulding.

LowlyfeGTP, yeah i guess your right that does look pretty sweet on the silver GP's, it kind of makes it look like it has a lil shorter wheelbase, GTOish kinda in the first pic you posted. I loved it, getting rid of the side moulding was one of the first things I wanted even when the car was still on the lot. The headlights on that GTP were actually clear covers reverse painted on the inside. Closest to the "projector look" I could get 9 years ago. I had two companies over the years that were in the process of making lights for us, but both backed out of involvement with the GP community.

I think the Silver and blue go nicely. On my second Silvermist GTP I had blue overlays, and calipers and it looked nice. I think the black wheels look fine with the silver/blue combo. The blue side moulding would have to grow on me though.

I will be going Silvermist and gray, with some red accents on this GTP. Unless, I find a painter to hook me up so I can do the real paint scheme I want.

yeah the side molding was a big risk for me, but i decided i had to try it cause it seemed like to me the side of the car being all silver was little too much for me, like it needed a breaking color to kinda divided everything up and give it some character.
