Thread: Custom Door Panel

I have a 2 door 2000 Grand Prix Im looking to change out the cloth on my door panels for black leather. I completely redid my old door panels in my Lumina so i know its possible. My question is how do i remove that door cover thing attached to the cloth. I have seen behind the door panel and it looks like they melted it to stay in place. I have seen people that painted that part a different color so i know it must come off. Has anyone done this or something along the lines? Any tips or suggestions whoud be helpful Thanks!

It's the dark door handle thats in the cloth, does that come off? I can't see any scews behind it

I would do that its just im not really liking how they stiched the leather on those stock ones. Oh well i suppose ill just have to figure it out.

The handle slips through when u take the panel off. The housing for the handle is melted on the best way I've found to reattach it is to use fiberglass resin

So i finally got to it this weekend all i needed was a torx 27 bit, black leather and spray adhesive. The panel pulled off easy but it turns out just about every part on the door panel is melted into place so expect alot of time if you decide to do this. Here is what it looks like, not bad for $20 and some time out of my life

it might look outta place if you get "leather" factory seats since those are really just pleather.

Ya im not messin around with the cloth seats i just put covers over them since im a welder the seats get dirty and will not come off i learned that from my old car. Plus i live in MN so it goes from 90 in the summer to -20 so that also sucks

You could also reweld the tabs onto the panel with a plastic welder. That's what i use for repairing bumper covers and other plastic parts.

Yeah the front door panels came apart pretty easy but i have yet to get to the back ones its a coupe so no one ever sees it. As for the leather seat swap like i said in my previous post im not interested because seat covers work well enough. I was going to do a how to guide on these but it seems pretty easy once you get the door panel apart

I suppose its all personal preference leather seats are nice for a resale but for sure i like my cloth. And are the leather ones heated does any one know i cant really recall?
