yeah, I know... but it's 1/10th of an inch... how do you make sure you don't go 1/5th of an inch?

Mine were the entire width of the flange off, i just took half of the flange off, gave me much more light and it only took 10 minutes a side.

so you modded the housing, not the bulb? I think I'm confusing myself.

The bulb. I ground the flange down so the filiment was further in.

But now that i think of it, I should mod the housing to make up the rest of the difference.

guess so. those pics aren't mine, but the bulbs were the same as mine, comparison wise (the fact that I need them to "get shorter")

my car came stock with H3 fogs... they used to be brighter than the stock headlights, now they are useless.

I went with single bulb 35w and a 6k. this has a slight tint of blue but you dont really need a high beam when u have lights that bright. i havent even thought about flicking the swictch.

I read in another thread that if you have HIDs, you don't want them on as DRL's. Does anyone know why that would be? Is it just so they don't wear out as fast or is there another reason?

    ^^^^

yes. hids bulbs have about 3000-3500 hours in bulb life. Why waste that by having them on at all times? plus i think cars look like ass with headlights on during the day

Fair enough. Is it hard to do? I want to keep the auto on function, but disable the DRL function.

Ha! You're kidding me! I thought I read that you have to pull out some relay and jack with it for it to work. So there is a DRL fuse and seriously that's it? Pull it out and the auto-on feature still works??

All I did was pull the fuse out and the DRL went off, but know I have to turn the headlight knob at night for the headlights and the dash lights to come on, i dont know if there is a way to keep the auto on feature, but i dont mind turning a knob to get my headlights on.
