so my stock tailligths were crap when i bought the car so i bought the best looking taillights for the GP IMO (before the LED tails were out). well i dont wanna spend money on different lights but i want to see if i can make the ones i have look better. i want to take off the lense, remove one of the reflectors from the bottom and relocate the other one in the center of the big brake light lense to keep it legal (hoping to hide the reflector a little), then i want to somehow get rid of those god awful flames in them, so i want opinions and tips so i dnt go into this blind, thanks for the responses guys

i did a quick before and after on paint to give a general idea...

    before:

    after:

'04 Chevy Silverado LT 4x4 - intake, headers, full exhaust, zo6 cam, 799 heads, tune, leveled, 33's
'00 Grand Prix GTP DAYTONA 500 - L36 block, S1X, intercooled, GenV, N*, headers, full exhaust, coilovers, 5 speed swap, stage 3+ clutch

Put like 3 coats of VHT on them, it'll look a lot better, and smooth-er.

You can probably get rid of the flames by sanding it smooth. That's what I would do, then wet sand to make it smooth and clear coat it.

are the flames surface on the lenses? or are the etched into the back of it? thats really gonna eff you up if they are etched into the back of the plastic

the flames are recessed into the plastic under the inside lenses. so idk if i should sand them or fill them in with something, then smooth it out and wetsand it over. i thought about tint at first but i was lookin for a custom look instead of doing what everyone else is doing. idk how the VHT would look on these lights being the outer lense is so far away from the inner ones that it would seem VHT would have less of an effect with them rather than the stockers but not sure. thanks for all the responses tho, more are welcome

I like those tails other than the stupid flames that are in them. Could you fill them in with bondo and repaint them?

thats what i was thinkin, sanding seems to much like a ***** so filling the flames in and smoothing them over then paint and sand and it should look good. maybe take out the reflector mounts too. i agree they look good but the flames riun them

Tint them. Saves you time and probably money too. $20 to tint em nice yourself.

ok well i took your guys' advice and may i say you all were right. tinting works wonders. this is a pic after 1 light coat, a wetsand, and a medium coat and thats it, no clear yet. i think its a real nice shade and pretty glossy for no clearcoat too

Get some nice clear on that, then sand it, buff, and wax it.

It usually is really glossy when you just put the tint on, and then dies down. Clear coat it for sure looks nice so far.
