Thread: tint

i have this tint on my car that came with it and it looks as though they tried to do it themselves or had someone do a real ****ty job on it, the back window its pealing and looks watery, and the side windows if you look close enough you can see where they poked holes to get the air bubbles out...my question is i want to replace the whole tint and i am going to have someone do it for me...is it easy to replace? will it ruin the windows?

if your having it done. they can take the existing tint off. < just like when they put it on. gonna cost u an extra 100 bucks or so, but well worth it.


i hate do it yourself tint. never looks good. and it never is black.

right that is what i am going to do...i dont even want that dark of a tint but just a little darker than normal

I've had my tint like three years. This pic was taken a few weeks ago. I had it done professionally, with lifetime warranty Llumar film, 15% all the way around. Cost me $180 out the door.

I have to get mine done I am going to call around today

I just got the same thing except it cost me $140

Remove the tint yourself. It saves money, as well as saving the hassle when/if the shop destroys your rear defrost and says that it could not be helped. I know a lot of folks have different ideas on this, but I promise that this is the easiest method I've found.

Get a roll of cling wrap, or if you really want to stay on the cheap you can probably use plastic shopping bags. Use "Simple Green" cleaner, spray liberally on the rear window, then contain it on the window using the cling wrap. It is best to do this on a hot, sunny day if possible. Allow the window to sit in the sun for about half an hour. If it's cool out, you can also use a blow dryer or heat gun. Start at one corner, and slowly work it loose. Make sure that the adhesive is coming off with the tint...this is where most people make the mistake of yanking the film off and leaving the nasty adhesive. Keeping the adhesive and film together, slowly pull the tint off. If the film and adhesive start to separate, stop, hit it with a little more Simple Green, cover it again, and use the heat on it for a few minutes. This will make the tint come off clean, so you don't have to worry about destroying the rear defrost.

It has worked flawlessly for me on every occasion where I needed to remove tint. From the time I got out of my lazy chair to start getting the things I needed to do the job back to the time I was finished and sitting back down into my chair with a cold beer has never been more than an hour.

getting mine today 35 on sides and 15 in back

I have 5% all around. Paid 180 out the door and never regretted it. 2 years later not a single issue.

i took off the rear tint tonight thank god...didnt do that method you said josh, but just peeled off the tint, then my buddy had this like sticker remover spray stuff, smelled a lot like WD40 and with some elbow grease, it all came off well...

nice to hear who usually does tint jobs cuz i want my rear window and side windows 5% who can you bring it too that will do it?

Glad to hear it worked out, although you would have saved all of that elbow grease doing it my way. Make sure that you did not damage the defroster lines!

i made sure i didnt damage them and they are fine

im sure i would have saved that elbow grease but i have an endless supply of it...lol
