This may not be the appropriate location for this thread but there arrent many HID disscusions around and was looking for a solution to a specific probleme.(aren't we all lol)
An enherant probleme with installing HIDs as low beams is that there are a few factory designed switches that will flash the HIDs, which is not preferable due to that it will shorten the life of the ballasts. The three occurances I have noticed are: 1- When starting the car, as there is a gap between the run and start positions which causes lows to be powered on, then off, then on again. 2-When flashing brights, as switching to high beams removes power to low beams thus flashing HIDs. 3- Factory arm and disarm flashes which flash low beams thus flashing HIDs.
I have solutions for the 2nd and 3rd occurances but am stumped on how to avoid the 1st.
The 2nd can be remedied by simply wiring a relay wich powers the HID relays when the high beams are turned on. This also alows to have the HIDs as well as the High beams on at same time if ever the need arrises. Although this is not recommended for extended periods of time as most headlamp housing may not be able to handle the heat generated by both bulbs. And not to mention it would put a load on an insuficiant alternator. I have done this wiring and it works like a charm. Attached is a basic pic of this.
The 3rd can be remedied by re-routing the flash signal to where ever you please. Here is an example: DRL circuit Re-route to fog lamps
If anyone has tried to fix the 1st occurance of HID on/off/on any info shared here would be greatly appreciated.
