Re: Rust on the trunk lip
dunno about the rattlecan approach.. i know locally i could go to a napa and they have a paint place in some of them that can make you a "rattle" can of paint..
myself because i had so much i went to a sherwin williams auto. and got all i needed. i think they can make a can too..
Re: Rust on the trunk lip
i dont know what to do :( i think i can pull off a good job rattle canning it and sanding it x4 then it should be all good =] what grit sand paper should i use once i applied enough primer to even out the existing paint "so it now matches" then what should i use to prep for the base coat then after i paint it my bronzemist what clear coat is good to use? thanks guys.
Re: Rust on the trunk lip
well because this is a touch up, you are gonna wanna not just spray the effected area, you wanna get more coverage..
use like 800 to sand the primer into the base coat so its 100% even.. works really well if you close your eyes this way you can go by touch only
mask off and cover everything around the decklid.. depending on your colour match (which you should test on something first) do everything up to the bottom of the spoiler. that body line should provide enough separation so that you cant tell its been redone.. for the current paint, do the same thing for the primer, sand with 800 id suggest wet sand, makes live so much easier, but again prep the area first becuase you are gonna make a mess..
wipe the whole thing down with a wax/grease remover before painting this way you get flawless paint.. follow directions then hit with a high quality clear, dont skimp on cost afterall this is your exterior paint were talkin..
Re: Rust on the trunk lip
no skimpping gotcha. do you suggest any brands?
Re: Rust on the trunk lip
products can be sometimes different between usa and canada.. so no names really..
again myslf i went to an auto paint store and had them give me what they felt i needed (hence the $400 bill)
see if you have an auto paint store locally and go into them and talk to em..
Re: Rust on the trunk lip

Re: Rust on the trunk lip
Dude we did my friends suv with duplicolor and clear and you cant tell the difference between it and the stock paint. And it was white too. If you need an absolutely perfect job hit the body shop, if not theres no need to spend over 30 bucks.
