First of all, hey everyone! I just registered here, but I've been a shadower for quite some time. I bought a 98 GTP about a year ago and a certain part of the frame was riddled with dents and rust. I want to swap this piece out and get a new one, but I'm curious about the expected cost (with paint included)?

This isn't my car, but it's the same color and part of the frame as that I have highlighted (my MSPaint skills rock :P)

    Thanks a lot!

Well the part of the frame that I have highlighted is one piece together. Luckily all the dents are located on the same plane. Can I even order a piece like that without hitting up a body shop? That's pure steel and most places don't sell parts like that that need welding.

just replace the quarter panel if its bad, cut the pillar between the back glass and door, the roof isnt rusted out there is it? i would say fixing dents would be better than cutting it all apart and replacing that part or it.

Nah a junkyard would be your best bet, but bondo would probably be easier.

By the by, I don't believe that is the frame. The frame is what is underneath the exterior metal. That is a panel if I remember correctly. And I have never had anything like what u want done but I don't think it owuld to terribly expensive

You can get a replacemend SIDE SKIN for our cars and then use just what you need. It pretty much includes the A pillar, all the way up to the roof moldings down to the qtr. Removing the outer skin is much easir and probably all that is needed, I doubt you have significant rust to warrent going past the frame. Not to say it can't be done but you will become a huge risk as in if you have a shop do it, they probably wount, section the skin and frame in as it ist to much a liability and safty risk nowdays. But, it has and can be done.

Also you can get parts like you want off used cars at your junkyards. Often with inscurance companies they will get used blak halfs for the car if the cost results in cheaper that replacememnt pannes, this is primarly done with skins and if parts, such as rockers need sectioned in.
