The higher pressure may cause the seals to blow on the turbo prematurely, then you have to get the turbo rebuilt. The restrictor helps this from happening, but you should put another filter before the restrictor like tengis was mentioning. If anything small gets stuck in the restrictor, the turbo is done.

There is no seals that will blow on a turbo just piston rings on the turbine shaft and one on the seal plate (cold side) I work for bullseye power and we tell all the customers that you want a min of 60 psi while the turbo is working or boosting. At idle we all know thats hard to get but at idle the wheels should just be spinning free in there
TOO much oil and the CHRA will fill up with oil quicker than it can drain out so the oil leaks out of the compressor and turbine side causing your car to smoke. Its harmless to the turbo and the motor unless you run out of oil of coarse. If it does that than you can just put a restrictor fitting on it and be done with it. The turbo bearings work the same as our engines, it takes oil pressure to keep the shaft from hitting the brass bearings and rubbing them away.

Try to run a filter like FoSHO99 said. I rebuild a good 1 a day from trash going through the turbo. That costs alot of $$$ and a cheap filter could have saved it all from happening
