I have seen the setup, and it is pretty damn nice, granted it wasnt on a Grand Prix.
I would hate to try to find the room under our cars to be able to run it though.
Its been done by Intense. They were gonna make kits back in 05 but never heard anything about them like it just fell off the map
I don't know necessarily about an STS kit being cheaper than ZZP's setups. I'm a fan of keeping the turbo in the engine compartment, not in the back of the car. I know that they can make power, but I just don't feel comfortable with them. I don't like having the life-blood of my engine taking a 30 ft journey under my car.
Also, STS holds a bunch of patents on the concept so I don't know that other systems can be built and sold without infringing on their patents.
here is a point for you to think about: how are you getting oil/coolant back to the turbo to cool it? sure, you can get it there, but how does it return to the motor when its sitting lower than it? (hint: think secondary oiling system)
aka, too much ****ing work. not to mention the miles of exhaust piping under your car that you have to be entirely too creative to fit where it shouldnt be.
Should an issue arise with that pumping system (and it is a possibility) and the oil does not get back to your engine, you will lose your engine and turbo. Now, that can happen with any setup I suppose, but it's more prominent when you have a situation where a scavenge pump is required.
Also, part of the allure of the rear mounted turbo is that you don't necessarily need an IC. The thought is that it has cooling time on it's 15 foot trip back up to the intake.
The main reason I wanted to do a STS setup on mine is so anyone looking under the hood doesn't know it's boosted.
What better way to make a sleeper? Other than hiding a bottle?
While I can understand what you are looking to do, if you look under the hood you are going to notice the intake tube not going to an airbox/CAI. Even without popping the hood you are going to see the boost gauge.
No offense, but the cat's out of the bag in regards to rear-mounted turbochargers.
Though they are more work, they make more power, they keep the engine cooler, they don't kill your gass milage like a supercharger. So all in all i'd say they are worth it. But thats just my opinion
Kill mpg's? It is all in the tune.
I got close to 34 cruising on the Hwy with an XP/Pacesetter/3.2"/LS1TB/3.29 gears setup with pump 91...
i wouldnt mind the sts aetup ive seen it on a few cars shows good gains and is kinda badass
Novi 2000...
WTH are you talking about? First off the charge pipe could EASILY be disguised as a fenderwell intake, and if someone was trying to hide their kit, why the hell would they just put a boost gauge in plain sight? These are definitely things you should think about before posting. kthx.
The problem with rear mounted turbo's are they make too much noise (to hide anything) so everyone already will know what's up. The spooling noises are very pronounced, very obvious. It's a great idea, but you're better off putting a turbo under the hood and just not popping it for people that want to race. You could run a non-i/c'd setup (one for sale for $900... just sayin...) and use meth-injection so you don't have a front mount on the car, which will keep the unsuspecting not suspecting.
WTH? You cry baby mods deleted my post? God damn you guys are a bunch of little cry baby *****es, or i mean ****** god forbid i say poop and damn in the same sentence.
No its not that... its called useless posting/**** posting...
if you do it, it gets ninja deleted because no one wants to see your useless post.
