Larger valves work fine in L67 heads. The later series 3 engines' valves are slightly larger than the older ones and will work just fine but the valve seats will need to be ground to match. There are other options out there for valves also if you are looking for larger ones.
Stock VS Stock, the intake will marginally flow better and they have a larger valve. The L32 heads come with the larger intake valve and is a benifit over an earlier head with a slightly smaller valve and saves you the cost of buying these or other larger valves. The exhaust port isnt a concern since it will be ported and will make good gains with stock size valves and even better gains with larger valves. Without port work adding larger valves will generally gain nothing at all and in some cases can hurt airflow though the 3800 heads dont have a huge selection of valve sizes and the larger ones are not much larger than the stock ones be it L67 or L32. Since the L32 heads came with the slightly larger valve the seat was ground to accomodate for this during assembly and when they are cut they are also recessed below the valve seat to blend into the port. Other than the cost of the valve there is no more money involved as a valve job is performed on all ported heads after they are finished to ensure the seats are true and have a nice finish on them and at this time if installing slightly larger valves the changes will be made and good valve seat cutters will radius the larger diameter down into the area below the valve for enhanced flow.
so what are the power gains or benefits u get from porting L67 heads? and since the exhaust flow is alot smoother, would it sound a lil different?
Depending on the exhaust system on your car you will hear a little bit more exhaust note. An actual HP gain number is hard to say because there are an aweful lot of variables with mods plus the fact that the car will need to have a good tune to get the most out of them, but I would say an easy 15-30 hp. Any aftermarket camshaft that is larger than stock will definately take advantage of ported heads which will flow better at higher lift #s than stock castings.
yeah thats true. cuz i actually ported and polished mine. i didnt really port them that much since i didnt know what the outcome would be, like the fuel ratio, and it was my first time porting anything. i polished them up real nice tho so im hoping to get some benefits. i also ported the inside edge of my tb, the lip on the inside from when u take that screen out. maybe that will help a lil. i wont know til i drop everthing back in next month.
