Im 269 - I circled the wrong times

Keep in mind im a complete noob to the strip and lost my virginity this weekend.

My first run consisted of me spinning for an 1/8 and no i didnt just mash it. Torque brake to 2k and ease into it also trying to feather out the spin

My second run I was a little confused cause my buddy staged me quick and I lost focus but put down as good a run I could without spinning

My third run felt good with a tiny amount of spin @ maybe 30mph

My fourth run i lowered the tire pressure to 20psi and hooked up rather well so i gave it a bit of snot but not too much as i didnt want to lose to an el camino - With the lower pressure i went from a 15.2 to a 14.5.

I know 14.5 isnt fast by any means but from how the car ran and my 60ft along with the 1/4mph I know theres at least another .5 sec hidden there.

Here is a direct link to my 4 timeslips - please no trolling

    11.32 1/8th @ 70.49mph---- 9.5 1/8th @ 77.2mph
    16.59 1/4 @ 95.56mph------ 14.50 1/4 @ 98.24mph

In general, .1 off your 60' equates to roughly .2 off your 1/4 so once you learn to launch you'll be in good shape. Mph seems low though, with a 3.5/xp I was trapping ~105 (L36 though).

The track is an abandoned air strip that only gets raced on one weekend a yr. They do as good a job possible and its volunteer work so cant complain too much. Keep in mind I wasn't getting on it like i should have hence the slow 60's, the track was way too slick and if i went over 1/2 throttle id just break loose even quite a bit into the runs. Dropping the tire pressure I felt more grip so i got into it a bit better. May not be 13.4 quick but i bet its close. A few things I have to iron out with it including possibly changing my heads.

I had a stock trans, stock injectors, stock heads/motor minus the cam, obviously.

My actual mod list was intake/headers/ported blower/ported TB/DHP tune/3.4"/XP/LS6 springs...

I'd be willing to bet in perfect conditions its a mid 13's car, easy.

Sweet, I like to see what guys are actually doing at the track. What is the elevation in your area or at the track?

yah blue I think your right on the mid 13's. the car still had a bit more in her I just didn't wanna spin. I dId break loose and let off a tad too. Gonna order some drag radials and goto Brainerd in a few weeks and see if I can get a few passes without grenadine the tranny.

With all the tranny issues on these forums, I think I'd rather keep stock tires and play it safe. Work on your footwork and get that 60 down. Pretty sure I've seen time slips here with sub 2 sec 60's.

But that's me being a wuss. That's just too big of a bill for me for one potential 13 second run

Yeah just practice launching, best technique I've found is to hold the brake and bring the rpm's to 2k, 2nd yellow you let go of the brake and bring the throttle down as fast as you can riding that line between spinning and maintaining traction (hard to explain, but you'll feel it). I air my tires down to 15-20 psi in the front, pump the rears up to max (usually 45), remove spare/jack/junk in your trunk, move your front seats forward as much as possible, avoid the water box (just go around and spin them a tiny bit to clean the tires off), and stage as shallow as possible. I'd creep up and stop as soon as the first yellow lit up, then go real slow watching for the second one and stop as soon as it lit. Only bad part, the other guy is usually already there waiting for you, so once your staged you better be ready to launch in a hurry. You'll get 2.0-2.1's pretty easy eventually, as long as you have half decent tires and do a bit of prep.

Cutting lights is cool for bracket racing, but the RT has no effect on the overall time.

Just take your time with it. DBW cars suck to launch more I've always thought...BRING BACK THE CABLE DRIVEN CARS!

And if you'll be running drag radials, or even street tires...avoid the dry "hammer the throttle quick to clean the tires outside of the water box"...worst thing you can ever do. I've seen a few people snap input shafts that way, or at the minimum axles.

This is what I did each time until my final pass when all I changed was the tire pressure from 34 to 20 and felt I could give it more gas but I didn't give it enough. With the air pressure at 34 I had 0 traction after breaking point. When it let loose with the lower pressure I felt it grab whereas it didn't with 34 psi.
