buddies l98 car put down 183 whp down. thats less than stock gtp's.
    Just for reference for Carlos...GT2 cam/exhaust/tuned L36 SE made 202 WHP/212 TQ.

    To the wheels.

That's nearly 20 WHP more...and in a rotting SE body...I'm sure it was lighter than a turdgen.

Third Gens are turds from the factory...fact

like any small block however...cheap, dumb, simple stuff makes them pretty decent...fact

Can probably use a wide range of strictly GM factory assembly line parts to put together a 300hp small block in a matter of hours. 300hp in a 3rd gen with a good launch is gonna sink it to times well below that of your average 3800 car. If you wanna start talking aftermarket...there is no other engine on this planet that has had more stuff made for it than the classic SBC...how fast do you wanna go? the limit is dictated by the capacity of your wallet...

    Better than 305.

Maybe it was just the "3800hatedyoumod"?

I have never found a 305 I liked. They are all turds, regardless of what it's in. And all the bolt-on's in the world won't make it better. For a basic cam bolt-on motor making that little power, its a fail. Consider what a 350 with a basic cam will make and then laugh at the 305 patheticness. The design behind the 305 was a great idea, horrible execution.

Now back to the OP, good run.

Pretty sure the 3800 wasnt designed to race.. Especially w/ a 4t65 trans.....

Also Is there a point to a cam in a 305?? Did he like lope?

This is GPF, where 3800's are the fast, and 305's are a challenge.

305 LB9s (TPI 305) With a WC T5 with 3.27 Gears are known to run high to mid 14's in the 1/4. If I recall thats stock GTP territory

Trust me My old 305 L03 setup with Ported TPI Swap, stock ported Swirl port heads, LT1 Cam, SLP 1 3/4 Shorties to GMMG Catback, S10 Converter and 3.55 Gears with a EBL Tune would give a 3.4 setup GTP a good run. I was probably in it cost wise the same as well.

Like others have said, the 305 stock form is slow as poop, but with some small touches it can be a fun daily. As far as the 350 L98, Its a whole diff conversation.

I love my GTP to death, but I have owned 4 Thirdgens (Or Turdgens as you guys call them), and as fun as the GTP is, The ''Turdgens'' can be made better.

nah i agree...i actually would love a thirdgen over any GP anyday.
regardless. we were talking stock 305's, with maybe some small mods. not anything as extensive as a cam and headwork, thats the only reason why i brought it up. no hard feelings?

So wait... You did headers, cat back, gears, a cam, and a tune for the same price as a 3.4 setup???? Not sure I believe that...
